NEW YORK (AP) -- It looks like a cause for celebration: The Dow Jones industrial average surged from 12,000 to 13,000 in just six months. But appearances can be deceiving, and there may be more reason to worry rather than rejoice about Wall Street's latest accomplishment.

Stronger-than-expected profits from several large companies helped push the stock market to historic heights. But

Maybe I am being too harsh, but they just can not report good economic news during a Republican administration without putting their biased "buts" in.

No your not being harsh. During the adulterers presidency the media would be rolling out joker after joker telling us the DOW will soon reach 30,000.

If there were a Democrat in the White House this would be front page news for a week. As there is not, all we will hear about is (1) the rich getting richer and (2) the gap between rich and poor growing and (3)what about all those Americans who can't afford health care / college / a new home and for whom the American Dream is slipping away.

And they still harken back to the Clinton economy to this day! As if the Fellatio Addict were personally responsible for it!

If the democrats were in the White House, the entire staff of NBC News would be doing a conga-line around 30 Rock.

Exactly. The media looks terrible on this. Their Democrat bias is just hanging out there for all to see.

If this were a Clinton administration the champagne corks would be flying at the NYTs and the big newtworks. They’d be falling over themselves to celebrate this “Democratic success”.

That’s just how it is.

The AP exists to elect Democrats. I’m serious. It’s bias is obvious and palpable.

Here's the best part: The Dow's latest achievement did not come without setbacks and volatility -- the index lost 416 points in a single session on Feb. 27 amid fears that the U.S. economy would fall into recession and that China's economy would slow as well. Wall Street has since had periodic shudders over signs that inflation might be getting out of hand -- a trend that would lead the Fed to resume interest rate hikes -- and over data showing weakness in the housing market. Just two weeks ago, the Dow fell nearly 90 points after minutes from the last Fed meeting showed the central bank's level of concern about inflation. Inflation could re-emerge as an obstacle to the stock market's uptrend if energy costs keep surging. On Wednesday, crude oil futures settled up $1.26 to $65.64 per barrel and gasoline futures rose to 8 1/2 month highs on the New York Mercantile Exchange, after the Energy Department reported a decline in U.S. gasoline inventories.

ATLANTA (AP) — Lazamataz was amazed to see, on his doorstep, 25 one-pound blocks of gold, as well as a signed promise from God that he will live to 250 years of age, in good health, while looking only 30 years old.

But what looks like good news on the surface might be horrible news. There were not 26 gold blocks, only 25, and 250 years is only a twinkle of an eye on a geological scale.

“He’s been horribly shortchanged,” commented Dr. Vincent Cougarbreath, Emory Professor of Health and Economics, “I frankly wonder why he’s celebrating.”

Life is sure to be gloomy — if long — for the young man, because living in a capitalist society will sap (continued on page 25)

Just maybe, the guy with the MB degree that resides in the White House knows that it is really the S&P that is the teller.

No. You're not.

The political bias in this story about a great economy is absolutely laughable -- almost a parody of itself.

Bush’s fault! There are the p-p-p-p-o-o-o-r-r-r folk still with us (sob, sob) and somewhere there is an unemployed mother of eight children (with seven different fathers) barely getting by and she needs a free abortion and her kids only have one TV and her car is ten years old and she can only afford two packs of ciggies a day and this cannot continue and Bush is to blame!!

I remember an article in the Washington Post about how well the economy was doing in response to Clinton’s recent election in 1992. Funny thing was, the article was using statistics from the third quarter of ‘92 - before Clinton was elected.
