Fred Thompson, Walker top WisPolitics Straw Poll
LAKE GENEVA -- State GOP activists voting in the annual WisPolitics.com Straw Poll this weekend favored former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson for president in 2008 and Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker for governor in 2010. Fred Thompson received 95 votes, compared to 84 votes for former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson. Mitt Romney was a distant third with 41 votes. Tommy Thompson and Sam Brownback, who got 14 votes, addressed the convention in separate speeches.

Former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson was a speaker at the convention so this loss on his home turf to an undeclared candidate has to sting.

And Brownback was lucky he got any votes at all, dissing Brett Favre in favor of Peyton Manning in Packer country.
Any politician knows to praise the local team and local hero. Brownback is a bigger goofball than I thought, and I always thought he was a big one.

And Brownback was lucky he got any votes at all, dissing Brett Favre in favor of Peyton Manning in Packer country. As I posted on the Wisconsin state board, I was lucky enough to be in attendance at Senator Brownbacks speech last night at the Wisconsin State Republican Convention during the County Chairmans banquet. I thought that he did a great job and everybody I talked with afterward was very impressed by him as a candidate. I thought the whole quarterback thing was just an intensional joke with the audience jokingly kidding him about it. Everyone was roaring when he said OK, OK, Bart Starr then... I thought he really connected well and did a good job of outlining his goals and principles. I think the only reason we were fortunate enough to get such a big-name candidate away from the states with earlier primaries was because the outgoing chair of the county chairmans organization, Don Taylor, will be heading up Senator Brownbacks campaign in Wisconsin.

I love Tommy, but he aint presidential. How bout a Thompson Thompson ticket? Sadly, most insiders here in Wisconsin think that Tommy 'ain't vice-presidential' material either.

If Tommy isn't presidential, then he no business being veep, either. A heartbeat away from the presidency and all that...
Besides, the man can't seem to keep his foot out of his mouth.
Getting beat in your home state by someone who hasn't even declared yet... Ouch! That's got to hurt.

I really want to hear and understand his platform. I hear he's a conservative, but then some FReepers suggested he was "John McCain's severed siamese twin" (mine, just to summarize some of the things being posted.) We need to start doing some fact finding to rebute these things.
That and I truly hope Fred is all that he appears to be.
I think it would be wise for those good at such things to pull as much of his previous history on legislation as possible so we know if Fred is truly "our guy".

Where have you been? Fred’s voting record in the Senate has been posted repeatedly for the last 6 weeks.

I like it. Also like Thompson/Watts Both VPs are true conservatives and would counter the expected Hillary/OsamaObama or Hillary/Richardson ticket nicely.
