Perhaps it’s the House starting to feel the heat.
Congratulations, regardless.

It’s about time. The only thing that is going to make anything enforceable is to stop states and cities from flouting federal law.

(It's the borders, stupid.)
From the article:
If I were (Speaker of the House) Nancy Pelosi, I’d be asking if she could pass a vote on amnesty on the House side,” Tancredo said. “If she lost 50 Democrats on this one, and she says she needs 70 Republicans to pass the immigration plan, this is an interesting indicator of things coming down the pike, and that the times, they are a-changing.”
To: The Blitherer
This IS surprising - I’ve heard that there was a big gap between what the Senate wanted to do on immigration and what the House wanted to do, but I didn’t think it was this wide.
Must be true what they used to say, that the House is more partisan in general, but is far better on mainstream issues.
Tom Tancredo may be a one-trick pony, but that’s some trick he’s got there.

Holy crap. 50 democrats. Hopefully this is an indicator of how the House will vote on Bush’s Immigration bill.

I enjoy the symbolism of this, but fear it will backfire if a tragedy in these places occurs and services are withheld.

The House passed the amendment, 234 to 189, with 50 Democrats voting in favor.

Hooray for our side! Thank you Congressman Tancredo! I hope this sends a message to the Senate. Their shamnesty bill will never pass in the House!
Unfortunately, our Mexican President will never sign this sanctuary legislation into law, even though the people have spoken.

I believe the Congressman is making major headway by sticking to his guns, and talking common sense, every chance that he gets.
This may only be a small victory; but any victory right now, for our side, is tremendously significant. The tide may really be starting to turn; but we have a long, long way to go.

Tancredo and his staffers hooted and cheered from his office across the street from the Capitol immediately after the vote. So are we!
