Democratic Reps. Nita Lowey, Carolyn Maloney, and Carolyn McCarthy all are in the club of millionaires, whose most famous member is Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

How the hell did this woman suddenly become a real estate mogul and amass a large securities portfolio? When her husband was killed, she was a nurse (not even an RN) living in a small house in a lower middle class neighborhood. But since entering government, she's now a millionaire???
I remember when her son was maimed (in the same shooting that killed her husband) and a charitable fund was set up because they couldn't afford his medical care! (And those who donated to the fund were then hit up -- on a steady basis -- for political contributions.)
I don’t care how rich they or anyone else is. I am concerned when politicians get rich from “public service.”
Those are questions you, citizen, are not permitted to ask. They might even be sexist questions. Our betters know what is best for us, and they work so hard...it wouldn't be right for us to begrudge them their fair share of what they might have earned had they not made the selfless commitment to public service. ;)
The Gore’s didn’t have two nickels to rub together when they moved to DC. Neither did Tip O’Neill. Ed Markey never had a job. He went from BC Law School to the State House. The SOB even dumped the girlfriend that got him elected. All became millionaires. Term Limits NOW!
I’m with you. And I believe she was separated from the husband who died at the time of the LIRR massacre as well. Perhaps, since they were not divorced, his life insurance policy played a role? And was there some kind of settlement from the LIRR? Otherwise all of these gains are, IMHO, ill-gotten as they have all come from her years as a “public servant”.

Term limits are not the answer. New House and Senate rules would do the job better. Eliminate the power of seniority in committee assignments and the power to reward and punish by the leadership. Term limits in leadership positions might work.
Unfortunately, those enjoying the perqs of the present system also make the rules. Term limits for office gets rid of a lot of good people. Limiting the power to reward and punish (the rules) may work but those determined to cheat will find a way.
Electing honest people is the answer. I like my Senators and my Representative and I would not like to see them pushed out of office.
