We need Winston Churchill to make this speech, not Jorge. We need steel instead of pandering. This kind of dumbspeak makes us appear weak in their eyes.
agree.
bush boy sux.
I voted for him twice. I still support him, in some ways, and value some of what he’s done (positive for this country, world). I question this Amnesty he’s pushing and believe any legislation with Kennedy is horrid (No child left behind was good in idea but never gonna work, imo). I will never understand his stance on this illegal alien travesty.
I remember when he gave one of his first speeches after 9-11 and called Islam the religion of peace. My initial reaction was “WTF?” How could he miss exactly what this religion teaches. There are moderate Muslims here, just like there were moderate muslims (a minority) in Lebanon when the War in Lebanon started in the mid 70’s. Those moderate muslims who lived among the Christians in a ME country that was primarily democratic and Christian, behaved well, hid their extremism, until the PA (with Syria’s help) took over that country and those “moderate” muslims didn’t have to pretend any longer and showed exactly what their religion teaches. They get more radical as their numbers increase and we’re seeing it in this country somewhat and moreso in Europe.
They’re doing the same thing here. As long as they’re a minority, they will hide their extremism while picking away at everything this country and its citizens prize. I’m astounded by this president I voted for twice - 0n this issue (Islam). I don’t think he has a clue concerning what Islam is all about. I gave him a pass immediately following 9-11 when he said Islam was a religion of peace. The claim that Islam has been hijacked by fundamentalists or extremists or radicals is misleading. Anyone who has read the Koran knows exactly what it teaches and what the “prophet” Mohammed is all about. President Bush apparently hasn’t read the Koran or falls for the so called moderates claim that it doesn’t state murdering all Jews and Christians and any one else who doesn’t submit to the teachings of Mohammed and Islam. I take them at their word and anyone who follows this faith believes what it teaches.
The fact that we (our government) gives any time to these organizations, gives them any credibility, chips away at all that is great about this country and undermines our nation. I doubt the government or the people will realize this until another devastating attack occurs. Then it may be blamed on the radicals like the last one was, or our foreign policy and other such nonsense.
Doppelgänger!
Pinging La Dita...
You might find this thread rather interesting...
Other countries hate us, not because of Iraq, but because we’re successful in every way. They hated the US way before Iraq and before Bush was President. Our economy, our military, our freedoms/way of life, our success causes hatred.
I worry more about our Country being defeated from within than outside influences or forces.
Perhaps this is a ‘mea culpa’ because he is getting ready to go into Iran???

Were he to utter those words ever again while president, I can see his "approval rating", whatever that means, plummet to single digits.
I can't find a better way to express the mind-boggling condescension, if not contempt for the intelligence of the American public than these words, written not so long ago:
Driving people crazy is easy to do. You don't have to give them electric shocks or put them all in solitary, all you have to do is make them doubt the evidence of their senses until they whimper, "What the hell is going on?" This is where America is now. There's a war on, and it's not in any of the places likely to become... --- Florence King, November 22, 1999.
Those dammed "day in the life of" threads need to be canned too! Don't dare even think of posting on one of them, with even a respectful unfavorable opinion, unless you are a kool-aid drinker, or you will have your post removed and be threatened by a moderator.

Maybe he’s going to convert there.

By and large I agree with both of your points. Nor do I blame Bush for doing something that needed to be done sooner or later. In fact, my point is that if he did not deviate from this cowboy style foreign policy we would all have been much safer. Wishy washy policies make other countries panic because of the unknowns.
It is no different with the stock market on volatile stock. Investors buy or sell in panic waves. It’s all human nature. Countries seeing the wishy-washy will tend to overreact and this is case their is mound of empirical global data to show that is exactly their sentiment toward the USA as a whole based on wishy-washy policy. The sentiment numbers skewed low after the invasion of Iraq but dropped preciptiously after two years on the ground there.
I don’t give a pass to enemies that always maintained hostile sentiment towards us such as North Korea, Iran, Syria, Venezuala, Cuba, Russia or China. These nations must be dealt with and we must stop appeasing them and take our lumps now before we are forced to fight them with our nuclear arsenal.
“Islam is a religion of peace!”
He has become mentally unsound. The 25th Amendment should be invoked..
ASAP!
President Bush has “lost it”. I am done with the Republican Party, going independent.
