It’s a southern thing. Being called “honey” or “sugar” here is just common. I do it myself.

Agreed! I do it occasionally and I'm always being called "honey", "sugar", or "sweetie". It's what we do. I would especially love it if it was Fred! :-)

The thing with Fred is that you expect him to tell you the truth, good and bad. No bromides, no campaign rhetoric or pie in the sky promises. The nation’s in great peril, we don’t have time for nuancing nonsense. This goes against the dems’ usual game plan, and maybe it’s a hard sell. But we’re adults, we have to start acting like it, otherwise, we’ll end up with nukes and IED’s on Main St. and whatever other atrocities Jihadists dream up. Imagine the ferocity, the plotting going on with Hillary’s campaign staff? “Get those FBI Files! There’s got to be something we can use!” And frankly, reading the entire Newsweek article, I think Fred really didn’t want to intrude on the Iowa Fair butter artist’s work/attention. (Think Jimmy Stewart.)

The ‘honey’ thing sounds Southern, old fashioned, and from Fred, charming, but I know what you mean.

Fred’s said he’d run because the country needed him, that we’re in peril. It’s literally do or die time, and it’s the one thing that motivated him when he’d rather spend time with his young family. Think about the change when he put himself through college, worked several jobs, supporting a young family. He worked his tail off, a huge turnaround from the ‘clown’ who didn’t much like book learning. On Sept. 6, he has to hit the ground running. Every stump speech has to be a firecracker, every appearance a barn burner, and I can’t wait.

just might be slipping a bit (I don't know that he is, but he might be), as we all do in the golden years

Well since you don't know that he is, why even bring it up? And how old are you to consider 64-65 as "golden years"? Half the country's population is that old, LOL! Where does your concern leave you for Romney (age 60), Giuliani (age 67) or McCain (age 70). Must they too be concerned about their respective marbles because they've reached their 7th decade?

There is much more to be said for the wisdom that comes from age and experience.

As for participating in every debate for the "practice" you need to realize that debates are rigged against republicans and for democrats. They are prime opportunities to mis-speak, be photographed and portrayed unflatteringly etc. While Fred will participate in many before it's over, he's lost nothing and gained everything from declining in these early ones.

And I expect Fred knows very well the amount of preparation and rehearsal required when the time comes. He's going to do fine.

I think Fred would be unwise to make this a standard approach as it will become impossible to maintain.

He needs to get the public's attention, keep their attention by being insightful, engaging etc. and save the big ammo for closer to the elections. IMO.

Holly Bailey with Richard Wolffe, Eleanor Clift, Eve Conant and Mary Carmichael

Now there's a collection of agenda-driven, biased media-Clintonistas if I've ever seen one.

“he is surrounded by hundreds of star-struck onlookers, many of them “Law & Order” fans who line up three-dozen deep for a close-up with the actor who would be president. Thompson, a sometimes reluctant campaigner, is in full movie-star mode, and has his good-ole-boy charm set on high. All the women he meets are “honey” and the men “buddy.””

*grinning*

I think Fred’s detractors mistake his low-keyed personality for lack of ambition. In fact, he has so much fire in his belly that he’s afraid that he would MELT the Butter Princess if he came within ten feet of her....

That would be bad publicity. Fred will save his fire to melt a notorious witch in a future debate.

It’s an old fashioned, southern thing, calling someone, even a stranger sugar, hon or sweetheart. I like it, it has a warm, friendly feel to it.

WOW! He is 6’6”, I didn’t realize that.

“Thompson LOOKS like a President and he can obviously ACT like a President.. With Newt Gingrich or Duncan Hunter as VeeP he probably can even BE President”

*shaking head in disbelief*

Oh good grief, you aren’t serious, are you? I can’t believe you actually said this. LMAO...imagine actually SAYING this within earshot of Fred. Hey, I’m no fan of his, but geeesh!

In Fred's vernacular he's a "Tall drink of water".

"...this Country needs a good man."

Absolutely! Finally someone here that places "The Republic" before politics and "the party".

If there was ever a time, for a "good man" to "lead" this country, this is indeed it.

The Country is in peril from without and the Republic continues to be in peril from within. Mr. Thompson, I believe, has what it takes to lead us against both perils.

"Is anyone even going to remember what happens in these early debates???"

Other than Ronald Reagan's; "I paid for this mic!", and "There you go again!", does anyone remember what has happened in any past debates?

"Debates" - The dog and pony shows we have called "debates" for so long now, are nothing but jokes! No one watches them to learn anything new. Supporters watch and all claim their guy won. We haven't had a real debate since "Lincoln/Douglas" in this country.

Growing up in the South, I understand. I just hope the rest of the country can understand and it will be a “drawing card” instead of a “turn off”. And, I think it will be the former rather than the latter.

Have a good day “sugar”.
