I did find it pretty incredible that MurryMom picked the anniversary of 9/11 to start posting here to FR.
Did the Soviet Union fall with the death of any of its dictators - Lenin, Stalin, etc...?? No. Why? They, as individuals were neither the movement or the institutions that the movement created; and "Al Queda" was created not by Osama but by the movement he is part of. What will happen, to Al Queda, if/when "Osama is caught" - no more than what happened to the Soviet Union when its leaders died - a period of adjustment. Some intelligence people believe that Osama is in fact no longer calling the shots, but keeping his face in the public-top-role serves the movement for now, especially as a distraction.
