9/11 Is Over (Tom Friedman has made us stupid)(Barfer of the Month)
New York Times ^ | 9/30/2007 | Thomas L. Friedman

Posted on 09/30/2007 1:40:55 PM PDT by mojito

....the story made me both laugh and cry, because it reflected something so true — how much, since 9/11, we’ve become “The United States of Fighting Terrorism.” Times columnists are not allowed to endorse candidates, but there’s no rule against saying who will not get my vote: I will not vote for any candidate running on 9/11. We don’t need another president of 9/11. We need a president for 9/12. I will only vote for the 9/12 candidate.

What does that mean? This: 9/11 has made us stupid. I honor, and weep for, all those murdered on that day. But our reaction to 9/11 — mine included — has knocked America completely out of balance, and it is time to get things right again....

Before 9/11, the world thought America’s slogan was: “Where anything is possible for anybody.” But that is not our global brand anymore. Our government has been exporting fear, not hope: “Give me your tired, your poor and your fingerprints.”

You may think Guantánamo Bay is a prison camp in Cuba for Al Qaeda terrorists. A lot of the world thinks it’s a place we send visitors who don’t give the right answers at immigration. I will not vote for any candidate who is not committed to dismantling Guantánamo Bay and replacing it with a free field hospital for poor Cubans. Guantánamo Bay is the anti-Statue of Liberty.

And why is that? BECAUSE OF YOUR PAPER AND MEDIA LIKE IT.

These are the same chattering classes that hated us on 9/12 for flying the flag and singing “God Bless America.”

(Of course, these same people will have no problem remembering Katrina every year...)

You nailed it (above). These people are pathetic. They are intellectual children.....who live in their own ivory pathetic towers....and have no clue as to how the real world operates (and provides them the security and luxury that allows them to live in their own intellectually empty la la land).

There ... fixed it

This idiot doesn't even get this right. He's voting for a candidate with his head in the sand wishing it was 9/10 and not 9/11, 9/12, or anything after.

What a stupid, stupid man. Working with stupid, stupid editors. For a stupid, stupid company, run by a dork named Pinch. There is no cure for stupidity this perfect, thick and dense. His newspaper must go out of business, and he must get a legitimate job, something involving the phrase, "Do you want fries with that?"

Friedman is the same sort of geopolitical moron who applauded in 1938 when Chamberlain returned from Munich with a pact signed by Hitler, which guaranteed, "Peace for our time." Friedman is just that dumb. And people like that, in 1938, got millions of people killed, starting in 1939.

- Before 9/11, the world thought America’s slogan was: “Where anything is possible for anybody.”

If “the world” thought that, then why were we attacked?

With a name like Friedman you would think he would know he’s one of the people on the top of their list.

Friedman is such an ass. If Guantanamo is 1/00th as bad as the limo liberals make it out to be, 7/8th of the NY Times would be locked up in orange jumpsuits at Guantanamo for the traitorous crap they publish.

“You may think Guantánamo Bay is a prison camp in Cuba for Al Qaeda terrorists. A lot of the world thinks it’s a place we send visitors who don’t give the right answers at immigration.”

This is the most stupidest thought ever. I can’t believe Friedman thinks that the rest of the world could believe this. Sorry, but it’s easier (and practical) to deport or turn away those who can’t come into the country.

“If Disney World can remain an open, welcoming place, with increased but invisible security, why can’t America?”

One, Disney World’s complete 40 square miles of land is controlled by the Walt Disney Company through Reedy Creek Improvement District. Besides, Disney has a million cameras inside the parks and various areas, and has a private security force. That’s makes it different from the rest of the country. Besides, America is already a open and welcoming place, compared to countries such as Cuba, Iran, North Korea, and China.

I will not vote for any candidate who is not committed to dismantling Guantánamo Bay and replacing it with a free field hospital for poor Cubans.

Only if Thomas L. Friedman pays for the field hospital entirely out of his own pocket.

I'm sick and tired of liberals raiding my wallet to ease their conscience.
