Joe McCarthy Freedom Fighter
Accuracy In Media ^ | Malcolm A. Kline

Posted on 12/09/2007 2:12:38 PM PST by Hal1950

A couple of years ago, I debated a professor from American University named John Doolittle who, prompted by me, admitted that Senator Joseph R. McCarthy, R-Wisconsin (1908-1957), may have exposed some real communists working in the federal government. “But I saw the Edward R. Murrow broadcasts,” Dr. Doolittle added. “He was a bad man.”

For reference:

The presentation made by author M. Stanton Evans on his recent book,
“Blacklisted by History” about McCarthy can
be viewed
by going to the URL below and clicking the red “Watch”
button at
the right side of the page. That will give you the presentation in
Real Player.

Folks with dial-up (like me) will probably get decent audio and MTV-video-style
sequence of jerky stills for the video.

M. Stanton Evans pointed out in his talk how Joseph Welch had previously revealed that Fred Fisher was a member of the National Lawyers Guild before the famous, "You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?", exchange.

This was news to me. The Welch comments were pure theater. McCarthy revealed nothing that was not disclosed by Welch weeks earlier.

AIM Report: Looney Clooney Smears Senator McCarthy - January A

"..What Clooney's movie leaves out is that Welch himself had outed Fisher six weeks earlier.

Welch "had brought it up publicly in the New York Times," Evans tells AIM. "In the New York Times there was a big picture of Fred Fisher [with Welch saying] he had relieved him of the [Army/McCarthy] investigations because he [admitted] he had been a member of the National Lawyers Guild when Welch confronted him." Thus, says Evans, "Welch had done exactly what he was deploring McCarthy for doing.".."

Good grief, reading the link almost gets me to want to believe in conspiracy theories. I still don't understand why high officials would defect in such numbers. In England the privileged upper class went into government and the big pool of defection was the university of Cambridge. There it was the idealism of communism or the shameful applet and appetite of being a homosexual that persuaded students to betray their country. Were there similar motives in the US? Surely, but why so many traitors?
