I conducted a lengthy interview with major General Rick Lynch, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division yesterday. The transcript is here. The audio is here.
The enormous progress that the surge has brought to Iraq is detailed by the general, but so was Iran's continued operations in Iraq, operations that kill Americans:
You see, what we're trying to do, Hugh, is to trace the rat line back where it came from. See, I've lost 147 soldiers under my command since I've been here in the last fourteen months. Many of those soldiers were killed by explosive foreign penetrators that are all traced back to Iran, or by Iranian rockets. So what we do, in everything that we do, for example, we found so many weapons caches over the course of the last month, and in those weapons caches we found Iranian rockets and Iranian mines. So we've got detailed biometrics. We check for fingerprints, and we traced those back to where they started. We're following the money back to Iran, we're following the munitions back to Iran, and then looking for those people that are trained in Iran as well. So it's a major piece of our operations, to block that Iranian influence.
Time for the tanks to roll.

I saw an interview on CNN the other day. they were interviewing a young Lieutenant who was describing the IED’s. The Lieutenant stated that the devices were coming from Iran. When the reporter asked him how he could be so sure, the LT. had a dstunned look on his face which could not be interpeted any other way than to mean “are you kidding me?” and replied with a deadpan voice “Well, the writing on the devices say “Made in Iran”. The reporter dropped that line of questioning.

We are no longer a strong nation and now everyone knows this.
Are you certain that isn’t “disinformation” like the “baby-fomula” factory story from Gulf War I? I mean, wouldn’t the markings be in Arabic if the grenade was from Iran?
The “Made in Iran” text in the picture does not line up with the rest of the markings. Also, the picture on the right has 2 lines, and the picture on the left has 3.

Whether this picture is authentic or not, do you doubt our troops are being attacked with Iranian weaponry and by Iranian-trained forces?
I have a friend who is currently stationed on the Iranian border who would beg to differ.

I think we should turn Iran into a glass parking lot. But I don’t want the US to catch more crap about “fakes” used to justify “agression.” (I’d rather just get on with the agresssion...)
And one (the only?) White House response is to push for yet another islamist state to be made out of Israel.

If it were manufactured in Iran, it would be marked in Farsi rather than Arabic. Not that I could tell the difference.
God bless the Third ID. March 10th, Robert Taylor McDavid was one of the five men that were killed in Baghdad. As of June 21, he will be my brother in law.
My in-laws met the wife of General Lynch at a tree planting ceremony in Fort Stewart and she proved to be a great lady. Since Taylor’s death, the military has been incredible. Leslie talked with the Governor of the State of Mississippi, we spoke with a General from Iraq to get all of the details to tell us what happened with the blast. Taylor did not suffer. General Patreus sent a letter to the family and there were so many others that called and wrote to the family.
This war needs to ramp up. I know I’m biased, and I’m pleased with the progress that we have made in Iraq since the surge... however; when it comes to Iran, my personal opinion is to do one of two things. Number one is to plan a strategic air strike right on thier one oil refinery and blow the hell out of it. Number two is to say, let’s show the world just how crazy Americans can be. Nuke the moon. Blow Iran smooth to hell and back and dare someone else to F with us.
All I know is that we are still dealing with the death of Taylor. It is so incredibly hard. It’s not like when your crazy uncle dies, and you can forget about it easily. With every news report, we are reminded. When we watch the news, we are reminded. When we listen to the radio, we are reminded. It is incredible to me to be so reminded. We miss him so much. I wish I could be half the man he was.
Please, all of you that read this, say a prayer for all of the Third ID, General Lynch has lost over 100 people under his command. Say a prayer for all of the men and women who are serving. They need it.
