Clinton's North Carolina Test
Washington Post ^ | April 30th, 2008 | Jennifer Agiesta and Perry Bacon Jr.

While Hillary Clinton aides don't acknowledge it directly, her momentum from a win in Pennsylvania may be blunted on Tuesday by one of the persistent problems of her candidacy: her struggles with black voters.

While polls show her effectively tied with Barack Obama in Indiana, she would gain more among both delegates and in the popular vote if she won the other state voting on May 6, North Carolina.

But experts expect that more than a third of the voters in the Tar Heel state will be black, and according to National Election Pool exit polling, Obama has won by double-digits in all of the states where more than 30 percent of Democratic voters were black: South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Maryland and Virginia.

Out of 32 states where exit polls were conducted, nine states had primary electorates where more than a quarter of the electorate was black, and of those, Clinton won only Tennessee, which she carried by 13 points on the strength of her 41-point margin among white voters.

Of course, other demographics suggest Tuesday's outcome is still up for grabs and largely dependent on turnout. In South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Louisiana, Obama won overwhelmingly in part because of his fervent support among blacks, who comprised more than 40 percent of the electorate. In Maryland and Virginia, where around a third of the voters were black, and in Georgia, he was helped by high-percentages of college graduates, another Obama strength, and by better-than-average performances among all white voters.

In North Carolina, about four in 10 likely voters have college degrees, according to a Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll, compared with nearly six in 10 in Maryland and Virginia and more than half in Georgia.

What this story doesn’t state, perhaps on purpose, is the very real possibility that Obama may have hurt himself as well with black voters who don’t want to support someone with Wright’s racist, anti-America views. Also, those blacks who can see past the color of their skin surely know that Obama is one of the strongest supporters of Amnesty for illegals whose policies on the Invasion have helped bring in untold millions of Mexican nationals and others who will work for less than black Americans and have thus stolen black American jobs. But logic rarely trumps race, so we shall see what happens.

Obama will continue to pull at least 92% of the black vote.

Those Black in my view are few and far in between. They even rallied behind OJ Simpson and that guy had victim’s blood/DNA on his socks.

Once they pick up on even a slightest racist vibe, its a collective VERTIGO moment.

Bill Klinton viciously mocked Obama after South Carolina and wanted to paint him as Jackson and Sharpton, to try and remind people he is NOT a legitimate candidate. The ears went up, and the Black Vote turned into a monolith.

If its Wright vs Obama, I assue you its Wright that would be abandoned.

Klintons injected race and deployed race card and when the issue was brought back over and over, and the beating he took on ABC, there is NO WAY Black community abandons him now. Guaranteed.

NC will tell the tale, watching the Black vs Hispanic vs White vote will be highly interesting. I predict it will be within the margin of error and could go to either Pig!

The only thing that would lower Obama's percentage of the black vote, would be if he was seen having lunch with Clarence Thomas
