Cant blame him, although I dont know how you solve this prisoners dilemma in an Internet age. One site floats the rumor, word spreads via e-mail, a few other sites blog it, another dozen sites reason that its gaining currency as a meme and already Google-able so theres no reason to ignore it, and its off to the races. The media gets wind of it, checks it out, maybe runs a public advisory story debunking it (e.g., No evidence of Michelle Obama tape), and finally puts a question to the candidate himself to give him a chance to blow it out of the water. The story runs the next day, a million people read about it, ten percent assume that its at least partially true, and voila. How do you keep a conspiracy of silence when everyone in the worlds a publisher?
We have seen this before. There is dirt and lies that are circulated in e-mails and they pump them out long enough until finally you, a mainstream reporter, asks me about it, Obama said to the McClatchy reporter during a press conference aboard his campaign plane. That gives legs to the story. If somebody has evidence that myself or Michelle or anybody has said something inappropriate, let them do it.
Asked whether he knew it not to be true, Obama said he had answered the question.
Frankly, my hope is people dont play this game, Obama said. It is a destructive aspect of our politics. Simply because something appears in an e-mail, that should lend it no more credence than if you heard it on the corner. Presumably the job of the press is to not to go around and spread scurrilous rumors like this until there is actually anything, an iota, of substance or evidence that would substantiate it.

Show that temper, boy.
Show people how stupid and thin skinned you are.
But, this is the guy that could be the next President of the United States if some folks don't wake up.
I didn’t hear a “no”.
Actually his response reads as a mild reproach not a “rip” as I would have thought from the headline.
nmh: “So, he won’t admit that the rumor isn’t true or doesn’t exist.”
Geesh! On this, Obama’s right. If people have the video, bring it forth! What ever happened to investigative reporting? What we call journalism nowadays is a complete joke!
If the tape is out there, is is being distributed by the underlings in the Hillary committee. No Republican would EVER admit to possession of such a video moment, as it is totally radioactive, and would contaminate anyone who admits to possession.
But Herself, still the Cold and Joyless, has nothing to lose now.
Certainly more bloodless than an actual assassination.
Worse the blacks that do this are not even embarrased.. including Obama... BOTH of them..
alloysteel: “No Republican would EVER admit to possession of such a video moment, as it is totally radioactive, and would contaminate anyone who admits to possession.”
It would contaminate the possessor? HOW?
If such a video exists, the only person contaminated would be Michelle Obama—contaminated by racism. That’s part of the reason why this rumor has legs. It’s believable. However, any journalist who brings it up should put up or shut up. What we call journalism these days is little more than an echo chamber for gossip.
Great collage. We need to get the angry one from his Montana win speech added. LOL!
Send it to ABC via a Kinkos computer in Abilene, TX. They’re SURE to believe it then.
Oops. Did he say "until"? Is that because "until" is a little less of a lie than "unless" would have been? What does he know that we don't?
Another tedious non-denial denial. Billy Jeff is better at it.
That’s not the Michelle that I know
Obama should provide the transcript and the video of the event to quell suspicions.
He’s a slippery, sh**.
