Izzat al-Douri pledges to fight U.S. troops in Iraq

BAGHDAD, July 15 (VOI) - Izzat Ibrahim al Douri, Iraq's former military commander and Saddam Hussein's vice president, criticized al-Qaeda network in Iraq and Mahdi Army militias loyal to Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr in his first audio call, vowing to fight U.S. troops in Iraq.

Al Douri, who has not been seen since the last days of Saddam's rule, became the leader of the Baath Party after Saddam's execution in December 2006. It was unclear why al Douri chose this time to release an audio tape — his first ever at a time that Iraq is witnessing an all time low in violence.

In the audio tape aired by Saudi-based al-Arabiya channel, al Douri warned U.S President George Bush that "the Iraqi people will fight you until doomsday" and demanded the withdrawal of U.S. troops.

He also criticized firebrand Shiite cleric Muqtada al Sadr's Mahdi Army and the Sunni extremist group al Qaeda in Iraq, pledging to "end the U.S presence in Iraq this year."

U.S. forces have been seeking al-Douri without success and have offered a $10 million reward for information leading to his capture.

Here’s an entertaining quote from the King of Clubs:

Izzat: “Shut up you minion, you (U.S.) agent, you monkey. You are addressing Iraq,” Ibrahim said. “You are insolent. You are a traitor to the Islamic nation,” spouting to the Kuwaitis.

Izzat Ibrahim al Douri is a reminder of why we hunted down the NAZIs for more than half a century after WW2 ended...not out of spite, but rather, because we didn’t want them engaging in clandestine warfare.

The “true believers” can be real pains...

Of course he’s going to fight. He knows what awaits him if captured.

Interesting.

“Al Douri, who has not been seen since the last days of Saddam’s rule, became the leader of the Baath Party after Saddam’s execution in December 2006. It was unclear why al Douri chose this time to release an audio tape — his first ever at a time that Iraq is witnessing an all time low in violence.”

Wondering if this asshat thinks the timing is right to jump out and say Boo! as we discuss withdrawing more troops due the success of the surge?

He may be thinking he can somehow turn our withdrawal into personal advantage in the eyes of the Iraqi’s.
