Just found this research piece via Breitbart's posted article, what if everything we think we know about aids is wrong?

Back on the 24th. of this month there was some rant against hospitals linked to along with ..Gallo’s Egg. The whole thing is tedious nonsense.

I've followed this subject since the mid-eighties and the author's, both Breotbart and Baker have done excellent work. The threats and character assassination alone should show that science is not the issue. Duesberg is one of the nation's great scientists, whose problem is his unimpeachable integrity as a scientist. Kerry Mullis has never minced words, and has, as Duesberg probably would have, received the Nobel for Chemistry.

I've described before on FR, my amazement, not at Deusberg’s brilliance, but audience response to a Berkeley/Oakland reading when Duesberg’s book, “Inventing the AIDS Virus” was first published. The book store, “Diesel Books” was filled, mostly with men ((I was there with my wife and new baby). After Deusberg spoke, rather than the jeer I expected, the audience stood and applauded. Then, one after another, men, mostly members of ACT UP, a gay activist group, told how Deusberg had saved the lives of their partners who were sick or near death from the affects of the “cocktail.” Their questions were more what one would expect attending graduate biochemistry seminar.

HIV/AIDS is very similar to man-made global climate change in that the scientists, at least those still working, are largely afraid to speak out, They have labs to support, families to support, and speaking up would probably cost a career in biochemistry. Duesberg lost all his NSF funding, beginning with his suggestion that a study be funded to look at possible causes for AIDS, since the retro-viral hypothesis couldn't be demonstrated. He mistakenly assumed that the science was relevant.

AIDS is the biggest public health scam in medical history. Like global warming, AIDS is being used to push a powerful leftist political agenda. For over two decades the Public Health Establishment has used your tax dollars and the full power of the federal government to wage a massive propaganda (and intimidation) campaign designed to (A) dupe the American public into believing that HIV is the cause of AIDS (B) scare the public into thinking "we are all at risk" (C) coverup the extreme toxicity of AIDS chemotherapy drugs (which are not just used on "fast-track" gays and junkies, but also given to pregnant mothers, infants, and children) (D) use this fear to push a leftist social agenda that includes socialized medicine, and the promotion of homosexuality and explicit sex "education" to tender-aged school children (E) use their "public health mandate" to bypass the authority of parents and local school boards who object to their social engineering schemes (F) create a massive federal bureaucracy encouraging the use of addictive drugs, to include prescription heroine (G) use threats and intimidation to silence dissenting scientists and to keep the press from covering the debate (H) and finally, to use AIDS as a model to push similar social agendas with respect to future epidemics.

Except for point B, I can't disagree with any of your other points. I think the days of scaring the public into believing we are all at risk are over. But on every other point, you're dead on.

Slight sidetrack. Bush threw 5 billion $ at the AIDS problem in Africa not long ago. Now he is throwing another 48 billion $ at Africa. Where exactly is this money going? To the UN? To a specific AIDS organization? To other organizations? Where?

Also, I've read that the AIDS epidemic in Africa is way overstated. And that many symptoms of AIDS (that could also fit other diseases) are being counted as AIDS, just so that the doctors/hospitals/whoever can get the AIDS money. Question: Why is Bush throwing such an incredible amount of money at Africa when there's no sign that any of this phenomenal amount is doing any good? Wouldn't that money be better spent on the hunger problem?
