Transportation Commission Picks Developer for Texas Portion of I-69 ZAI/ACS
Associated Construction Publications ^ | August 4, 2008 | Staff -- Texas Contractor

The Texas Transportation Commission approves the staff recommendation for a proposal by Zachry American Infrastructure and ACS Infrastructure (ZAI/ACS) to develop the Texas portion of Interstate 69. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) selected the ZAI/ACS proposal over a proposal from Bluebonnet Infrastructure Investors. The proposed ZAI/ACS master plan would develop the southern section of U.S. Highway 77 to interstate standards without tolling that portion of the road. The proposal advances planning for I-69/Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC).

The selection of ZAI/ACS for a development contract has no impact on TxDOT's environmental study that will determine the route for I-69/TTC. TxDOT will also continue its plans for upgrading U.S. Highway 281, which — along with U.S. 77 — has been designated by the federal government as a possible future route for I-69 in Texas.

The ZAI/ACS proposal, including maps, is available at: www.keeptexasmoving.com. For more information, call TxDOT's Government & Public Affairs Division at 512-463-8588.

without tolling, no less.

They made enough off of 121 in north Texas to build roads for the rest of the state for a while. Meanwhile, the folks in that area have to put up with overcrowded, poorly designed roads.

“I thought we killed the TTC.”

Can’t kill this cancer, it keep comimng back.

Actually, as far as I-69, there have been a few concessions buy the Gov. (like not all of it will be tolled and the southern part will follow existing roadway)

With TTC I-35, the jury is still out.

"without tolling, no less"

The proposal is based on tolling 7 local projects with the profits going to develop 77 toll free.

BTW, Zachry has been the state's preferred road builder since the guv was a young boy.

Given the huge gas taxes in your state, shouldn't you be more concerned about roads there instead of those in Texas?

About 30 years ago, Zachry's relationship with the Highway Dept(before it was called TxDot) became a major issue in Texas. They were pros at riding the progress payments.

Now we are in modern times. If you have a CDA with them, these companies will get the project finished ahead of schedule.

Looks like your right. Kinda like cockroaches. Every time you stomp on one, a dozen seem to take it’s place.
