John McCain, Sarah Palin and Americas destiny.

Posted on 09/07/2008 12:24:06 PM PDT by se_ohio_young_conservative

I was watching program on John McCain on Fox News this afternoon. And I realized something. There is only one Republican in this country that would have picked Sarah Palin as his running mate, John McCain.

Those who accuse John McCain of just picking Sarah for a measured shallow cheap political trick are wrong. John McCain is the kind of guy who follows his gut feeling instead of conventional wisdom or polling data. He is like that baseball manager that brings in a pitcher with a poor ERA in to strike out the side. The football coach that throws a pass on 4th and Inches.

John McCain picked Sarah because she is the same way ! I do not mean to scare anyone. But Sarah is a lot like him. She is going to make some Republicans stay up at night. The conservative base will not own Sarah. and that is a good thing.

John McCain and Sarah Palin are two people that by conventional wisdom should not be here. McCain should have died in VietNam. McCain should have dropped out of the race last December. Sarah Palin should have just accepted the status quo. Her life would have been a lot easier if she had just went a long with the crowd. Her life would have been a lot easier if she would have stayed in Alaska. Just as John McCains life would have been a lot easier if he would have left Viet Nam in 1968.

These are two very tough people. They feed on the challenge. I believe they post bulletin board material. and fight back.

God has a way with blessing us with the right people at the time. Way before John McCain was ever in Viet Nam. Way before Sarah Palin was even born... I believe this is destiny...

I agree. I think only McCain was in the position really to pick Sarah. A governor like Mitt or Huck would’ve felt pressure to pick someone more foriegn policy oriented. Rudy might’ve been gutsy enough to pick her though. I could see that.

Yes, I admire how McCain flies by the seat of his pants. We need this kind of leadership in the White House. He’s decisive, unlike Obambi who thinks too damn much. McCain knows what the hell he’s doing!

"God has a way of blessing us with the right people at the time."

You may be a young conservative, but yours is an observation some brilliant political geniuses shared over 200 years ago.

You're in good company. Read on:

“In this situation of this Assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened, Sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate our understandings? In the beginning of the Contest with G. Britain, when we were sensible of danger we had daily prayer in this room for the divine protection.- Our prayers, Sir, were heard, & they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a superintending providence in our favor. To that kind providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity. And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? or do we imagine that we no longer need his assistance? I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth- that God Governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that “except the Lord build the House they labour in vain that build it.” I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better, than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest." -----------Benjamin Franklin, at the Constitutional Convention, 1787

It was the author of our Declaration of Independence with its reference to "Divine Providence," who, after he was President, declared:

"I shall need the favor of the Being in whose hands we are, Who led our forefathers . . . from their native land, and planted them in a country flowing with all the necessaries and comforts of life; Who has covered our infancy with His providence, and our riper years with His wisdom and power . . . I ask you to join with me in supplication, that He will so enlighten the minds of your servants, guide their councils, and prosper their measure, that whatsoever they do shall result in your good, and shall secure to you peace, friendship, and approbation of all nations." ---Thomas Jefferson, Second Inaugural as President of the United States of America

These are just a few of the many, many references such leaders of America have made.

“Rudy might’ve been gutsy enough to pick her though. I could see that.”

Agree.

And his prelude to Palin’s speech on Wednesday was awesome!

“How dare they question whether Palin will have enough time to spend with her children while vice president? How DARE they! When do they ever ask a man that question?”

I can agree with SE Ohio, McCain is the only Republican with the balls to pick someone like Palin.

For me Palin is such a breath of honest fresh air, McCain should receive alot of credit for choosing her.

I had the same thought. All the others would have chosen clones of themselves. It took someone with a lot of moxie and love of country to think outside the box.

Can’t help thinking that maybe Senator McCain was spared in Vietnam for many reason. He sure turned my attitude and mind around last Friday.

I still have many reservations about McCain but the alternative is so horrifying that I am ecstatic about his VP choice. May I also add that so many of the runner-ups would be jealous of her instant fame but when I see McCain just beaming from ear to ear at the applause Sara receives at every introduction, I don't worry about any jealousy. He is so proud of her and it shows.

My feelings about McCain notwithstanding, I do believe that there’s something of a divine intervention with Palin. This is our long awaited bridge to the future of an America that remains a nation under G-d.

I’m not what FReepers would call a conservative, but I’d like to point out that McCain gave the base the gift of a person who is the most purely conservative politician to come along in years, yet she has crossover appeal.

Also, she’s charismatic, intelligent, tough, and has the ability to go over the heads of the media and the political establishment and speak directly to the people. She’s going to be here for a long time, and she’s going to have a profound effect on politics.

In one week, McCain introduced the country to a new conservative hero; unified the fractured party; and rebranded the Republicans as the party of change and reform.

I’d say that’s pretty miraculous.

I have my problems with McCain, but this past week will be studied by political scientists for decades.
