Ron Paul Wants Off Montana Ballot

HELENA – Republican Ron Paul does not want to be on the Montana ballot as the Constitution Party presidential candidate, but state election officials said Thursday it may be too late to remove his name.

Paul, in a letter to the secretary of state, said his name was nominated by the Constitution Party of Montana without his permission.

The secretary of state's office said there does not appear to be a provision to remove Paul's name at this point. At least some counties have started printing ballots, officials said.

"We have received the letter, and we are looking at the law. So far, we are not sure that the law allows for anything to be done about the situation," said agency spokesman Bowen Greenwood.

The Montana Constitution Party put Paul's name on the ballot earlier this week. Paul supporters said, at the time, that they had Paul's permission to do so.

In his letter dated Wednesday, Paul said he never wanted to be on the ballot. Paul lost a bid for the GOP presidential nomination earlier this year.

"While I certainly appreciate the Constitution Party of Montana's nomination, and all of the hard work of its members, I am writing to respectfully request that you remove my name from the ballot in Montana as I did not seek nor consent to this nomination," Paul wrote.

Paul also said the national Constitution Party candidate, Chuck Baldwin, should be on the ballot instead.

If only he were on the ballot in all 50 states.

Good for Ron - common sense move.

This also relates the generic issue of ballot changes - i.e. Biden. Most states are well past the certified candidate deadline.

Paul at least has not taken the selfish tack of trying to be a spoiler. Ron Paul is an honest though I believe misguided man. Libertarians and Paul would be served much better if they joined John McCain. Paul would make a great FED chairman. :-)

Maybe Brian Schweitzer can illegally remove his name from the ballot. Afterall he’s a self-described expert at election fraud.

There were about 10 Ron Paul supporters in Livingston, MT today holding a big sign that said, “911 - Inside Job”

Well, if Montana is claiming it may be too late to remove Paul from the ballot; how is Hillary going to replace Biden as rumored on the Internet?

Hmmmmm......president of Montana.

I would take that job. There are more cows than people in Montana, and cows are pretty easy to govern.

California deadline - Sept 5

The days dwindle down to a precious few - Biden is on more and more ballots which cannot be changed...

I’m not sure that Ron Paul could retain his seat as a Rebulican congressman in Texas and run as an independent for president.

But, as you said, he did keep his word and not run as an independent.

He just endorsed third party and independent candidates. That is a little strange...or bitter. I do understand where he is coming from. It would be nice to have a third party that is viable.

McCain is a bad joke as well as Obama. I fail to any difference between the two.

Comparing the loser (it was our fault we were attacked on 9/11) R-U-N Paul as being anywhere close to where McCain is is pathetic. He may not be the “perfect” candidate, but until Jesus Christ comes back there will not be a “perfect” candidate.

So, you are going to propigate the propaganda of people in this country who hate this country? Go sell your hate someone else. Free Republic is not the venue for this type of garbage. This belongs on DU or KOS.
