Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden is loose cannon, but tight wad on charity donations

WASHINGTON - Calling Joe Biden the cheap veep would be charitable.

Biden, Barack Obama's vice presidential pick, relased 10 years of tax returns Friday in hopes of forcing GOP rival Sarah Palin to do the same.

But the filings reveal the Delaware Democrat doesn't dig very deep into his wallet for charities.

Biden reported a total income of $2.2 million over the last 10 years, but donated a scant $3,690 in money and gifts.

His philanthropy hit a peak last year - while he was running for President - when he earned $320,000. He gave $995 to charity - and that includes a non-cash gift valued at $400, his records showed.

Based on percentage of income, he was most generous in 2007. He gave away .3% of what he and his wife, Jill, earned.

Biden donated $380 to charity in 2004, 2005 and 2006. He gave even less annually from 1998 to 2003.

The Obama-Biden campaign had no immediate response to an inquiry by the Daily News, but indicated it was reviewing the matter before making a comment.

A top GOP operative, however, snapped: "How does that compare to what an average American, making $40,000 a year gives?"

$2.2 mil over the course of a decade? By Senate standards, he should be wearing a barrel. I don’t know whether to reappraise his honesty or ridicule him for being an incompetent grifter.

Is wife Jill an heiress like Cindy?

Cheapskate. The liberals can lecture all day long about poverty, as they dredge up the poorest and the most unfortunate to showcase their munificent policies, but don’t ask them to give a dollar out of their own pockets. They are much better at spending your money.

Hypocrites? You decide.

As i recall, the most generous states are the poorest Red States such as Mississippi where the people average something like 3 Percent of their income in charitable donations, the cheapest are the Bluest like Massachusetts, where I believe they averaged about 1 percent. Most people I know give 3-5 percent (some 10 percent) of their income to church and charity; this bozo averaged less than 0.2 percent and the wonderful Obamas gave less than 1 percent. Course Biden’s the “compassionate” one, with other peoples’ money while we are the “mean Americans” at least according to Madame Obama.

There was a thread a few days ago that led to a website with NObomba’s tax returns. From 1-6% charitable contributions for the past few years.

The 6% included $13k to “Congressional Black Caucus” and 5-6k as I recall to some “black dance” organization. There was another $10-15k to TUCC.

The only “real” charitable gift was $15k to CARE. I presume that was NOT CAIR, but then again, who knows with this POS.

That is pitifully cheap and hypocritical. I’m not surprised but I think his lack of charity should be made an issue. Your tagline indeed sums up this cheap SOB and his equally cheap wife.

How true your tagline is.

It's good to see that somebody took the time to "comb-over" Mr Biden's tax records.

As one of the biggest tax increasers in the last 36 years, he certainly deserves scrutiny.

No! no! no! The NY Daily News just doesn't understand!

As the old scripture goes (as quoted from The Bible Of The Holy Democrats):

"It's not 'charity' if you give your own money. True charity is when you give other people's money away."

("other people" = taxpayers)

Biden’s “liberalism” is funded with YOUR money not his..

This is typical of the *$%%$ of the Left...

Their idea of “redistribution of income” is to take from conservatives and producers to pass out to their liberal and dependent leach constituency....

America — STOP ELECTED DEMOCRATS..
The “New” Democrats are Stalinist elitist bastards who will break us financially and enslave us..

The CNN spin has NO MENTION of Biden's paltry charitable giving and plays up the "Biden is a poor, man-of-the-people" angle:

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/12/biden-tax-returns-revealed/

Joe Biden's newly released tax returns appear to confirm what the Democratic VP candidate has long contended — he is among the poorest U.S. senators currently serving.

The Obama campaign released the 10 years worth of documents earlier Friday, in part to pressure the McCain campaign to do the same with Sarah Palin and her husband Todd's returns.
