Stocks' relentless slide continued Friday, leaving the Dow Jones Industrial Average poised to register the bloodiest weekly drop in its 112-year history. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell more than 600 points shortly after the opening bell, sliding below the 8000 mark intraday for the first time since April 1, 2003. Blue chips quickly moved off those levels, and at one point managed to climb into positive territory. But in recent trade, the Dow was off about 550 points at around 8010, moving back near its lows for the day. The S&P 500 Index was down about 48 points at around 861, with energy and consumer-discretionary stocks seeing sharp losses. Industrials stocks were also hammered. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost about 73 points to trade around 1571. The Chicago Board Options Exchange Volatility Index surged 15%, climbing above 73 for the first time.

This is W’s America. Like a lot of conservatives he never has liked the stock market, the financial or technology sectors. Now we are seeing the results.

Obama’s socialism doesn’t need a stock exchange.

Lehman Brother's CDS contracts are being sold at auction today and you all think that this mess is because Obama might get elected?

Sigh.....

Can’t pin this turd soley on Obama. The limp wristed republicans decided socializing the financial sector was wise. It is pure toxic poison to capitalism.

He’s had a couple of excellent Supreme Court picks, in spite of the Harriet Miers fiasco. Other than that, he and his dad seem to come from the Nixon wing of the GOP.

Agree! If McCain moved towards parity in the polls, the stock market would follow.

If our Republicans hadn’t decided that acting and spending like Democrats for the past 12 years was a winning formula, the may have the support of the people and might still have a majority.

The could have simply said no

No illegal immigration
No earmarks
No pork
No baseline budgeting
No deficit spending
No community reinvestment programs
No Fanny/Freddy drunken party

Well, instead they acted like socialists. Boehner, Cantor, and Shadegg all singing from the socialist hymnal and getting a large enough swath of republicans to give the dems cover to pass the bill. SCREW THEM

Can’t hang this one on Obama, although the timing of it will no doubt ensure his election.

Thanks Barry, Nancy, Harry, Chris and Barney....The American economy couldn’t have gone into the ground without you. The world markets want to thank you as well.

The stock market is a leading indicator, a forecast of what is to come. I think this market reflects a lack of confidence in the present leadership to deal effectively with the crisis and a belief an Obama administration would just make it worse by raising taxes and tariffs.
