I already have. I got to drive a Solstice GXP earlier this year.
I still prefer the S2000. Or my Miata.
Got my wife the turbo SKY, it’s scalded dog fast and sticks to the road like glue, but it is a tight space!
She’s already put about 25K on it in 10 months and I’ve driven it all of 500 miles... :-(
A guy who frequents my dealer has a stock one and then another he put the 400 HP aftermarket V8 and 6 speed tranny in, that’s just crazy...
That lines up with my impressions of the Solstice GXP I drove (mechanically the same as your Sky). Tons of grip, great acceleration... claustrophobic interior (mind you, I drive a ‘91 Miata, which isn’t exactly spacious). Couple that with the lack of a useable trunk, and I’ll have to pass until I can afford a second or third car.
Also, how on earth did GM manage to make a vehicle that is only slightly larger than the current Mazda MX-5 weigh so much?
Oh, BTW, I know of at least two companies that sell kits allowing you to swap an LSx V8 into an NA or NB platform Miata.
Saturn canned all of the polycarbonate body materials ~last year because first the recycled stock, then the virgin, rose in price. I thought switching to steel was about the stupidest thing in the world, it added about 500 pounds to the VUE, and not designing the SKY with it in mind probably added at least 300-400 to that.
One of Saturns big selling points was the PC body panels, indestructable from my experience (We’re on our 5th Saturn). I would have figured the CAFE hit would have been too much too.
Of course, “All conundrums related to GM can be resolved by accepting as fact that GMs core business strategy is to lose as much money and market share in as little time as possible” (Axenolith’s first axiom of GM) and this just reinforces that...
Trucks Still Maintain Top Stolen Vehicle Spots
Saturday, August 9, 2008 – updated: 5:02 pm MDT August 9, 2008 EL PASO, Texas -- Since the start of 2008, trucks have remained the top stolen vehicles for El Paso. According to The El Paso County Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Task Force, there have been 103 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trucks taken this year. The Ford F-150 has been stolen 99 times, followed by the Ford F-250 with 67 trucks stolen and the Ford F-350 with 44 trucks taken.. One SUV rounds out the top five with 43 taken thus far. The El Paso County Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Task Force urges motorists to lock their cars, take the keys and use anti-theft devices, such as alarms, kill switches and locking devices. They also said to keep all valuables out of sight.
drove a minivan (ford aerostar) until the expeditions came out, now on my 4th expedition. As the mother of three, I don’t understand how anyone would drive a minivan when SUV’s have more room and are much more comfortable (and easier to get the kids in and out)
Of course the whole snow thing here in Denver really makes my SUV indispensable
