According to TSO who was at the “Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball”, this newly sworn-in President for the first time in 56 years blew off the ball (that’s 14 Inaugurations).

TSO is one of the Mil-bloggers at "This Ain't Hell".

A tradition for over a half century until "The Loser" with his nose in the air snubbed the Medal of Honor winners.

Did this Ball actually happen? I read where the guy who set it up did not pay the hotel or there was some other problem.

If this did happen I’d think they would be happy he didn’t show.

It is obvious that Obama isn’t patriotic in any way, shape or form.

For those to assume he is would be foolish and so why would he care to honor someone who protected a nation he could care less about?

Obama thought about being there like he thought about joining the military...

George Stephanopoulos asked the freshman senator in a taped interview if he'd ever thought about military service.

“You know," said Obama as if his reply might surprise people. "I actually did. I had to sign up for Selective Service when I graduated from high school. And I was growing up in Hawaii. And I have friends whose parents were in the military. There are a lot of Army, military bases there.

"And I actually always thought of the military as an ennobling and, you know, honorable option. But keep in mind that I graduated in 1979. The Vietnam War had come to an end. We weren't engaged in an active military conflict at that point. And so, it's not an option that I ever decided to pursue.”

He probably didn’t to be in a room where everyone was better than he...rather than in Chicago where only the majority were better than he.

You're absolutely right. Having to receive the jerk at a function like this would've been extremely painful.

Assuming this is true, are we really surprised?? After all, there is a precedent - when he went to Berlin for the big rock concert (and, oh yes, I think he gave a speech there, too!), he would not go see wounded troops recovering in a nearby military hospital because Pentagon rules would not allow him to bring his 80,000 press secretaries from all the “news” outlets so he could turn it into a huge media circus.

I expect him to continue to snub our brave military. We are entering the era of Clinton II. Clinton I, as you will recall, never served in the military and holds the military in disdain. Obama is his clone.

This lack of patriotism takes me back to when 0bama removed the American flag from the tail of his campaign plane and replaced it with the symbol of the ‘O’. Every single person who voted for this empty suit knew he was a pathological liar and not a patriot.

I have seen similar hints.

Not sure except that one Military Ball was canceled.

It would seem odd that the StH (Medal of Honor) Ball would be canceled. It is sponsored by the American Legion and a bunch of other vet related groups.

I would figure they had their stuff all in one rucksack.

He and his wife made an appearance at The Commander in Chief’s Ball..where he spoke live with members of the Illinois National Guard currently in Afghanistan..and he danced with a female Sgt. in the U.S.Army...and Michelle danced w/ a Sgt. in the Marine Corps.

It’s childish comments such as yours that give Free Republic its well known reputation....sorta like the drivel I read at DU.......

[Last Saturday, July 19, Barack Hussein Obama paid a brief visit to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan on his way to Kabul. Captain Jeffrey S. Porter wrote a brief eyewitness account in an email to his family and friends.]

Hello everyone,

As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram, Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to 'The War Zone'. I wanted to share with you what happened. He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram.

As the Soldiers were lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball.

He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service. So really he was just here to make a showing for the Americans back home that he is their candidate for President.

I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here, you would thank those who are providing the freedom that they are providing for you.

I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States.

I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.

If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

In service,

CPT. Jeffrey S. Porter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Obama's cancellation of a military hospital visit leaves unanswered questions

July 25, 2008 The varying explanations for the cancellation of Barack Obama’s planned visit today to the U.S. military’s Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany are leaving campaign-watchers puzzled.Obama had been scheduled to greet U.S. troops at the hospital just before leaving Germany this afternoon for Paris, where he met French President Nicolas Sarkozy at the Elysee Palace. But first, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs released a statement Thursday night saying the senator had decided "out of respect for these servicemen and women that it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign."

The campaign amended that explanation this morning. Obama wanted to thank the troops for their service, but "we learned from the Pentagon last night that the visit would be viewed instead as.......a campaign event.," Obama advisor Scott Gration, a retired Air Force major general, said in a statement. On Obama’s flight from Berlin to Paris, Gibbs offered more details. Around July 15, the Pentagon approved Obama’s visit.

But military officials later invoked a rule on political activity at military bases and questioned whether it would cover Obama’s visit, Gibbs said.Obama spokesmen said they were seeking clarification on what the rule is. Gibbs also declined to speculate on why the Pentagon did not cite the rule until Wednesday. That account, however, didn’t square with the Defense Department’s explanation.

The Pentagon said it informed the Obama campaign on Monday that he and his Senate staff could visit Landstuhl, where wounded soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan are treated, but that no press would be allowed."Sen. Obama is more than welcome to visit Landstuhl or any other military hospital around the world," said Geoff Morrell, the Pentagon press secretary. "But he has to do so, just as any other senator has to do so, in his official capacity. It is not acceptable to do so as a candidate.""In an election year," Morrell said, "I don’t believe that any candidate is allowed to visit a DOD facility with press."He cited a Pentagon directive that activities "reasonably viewed as directly or indirectly associating the [Defense Department] with a partisan political activity" should be avoided.

Morrell said the U.S. military was prepared to accommodate Obama’s traveling press and campaign staff at the passenger terminal at Ramstein Air Base, the U.S. Air Force base in southern Germany where Obama’s plane had been cleared to land.-- Michael Finnegan and Peter Spiegel

Now stop spreading such hateful drivel! As Dixiekraut has informed me, it is childish to form an opinion that Obama does not respect our military. I mean he danced with someone in the military and so did his wife. By God, don’t think he doesn’t love the military, even if he could care less to meet with them unless a photo op was involved.

We don’t want to be compared to those at DU as he/she reads all the time apparently and give Free Republic a bad reputation.
