Asked for reaction to the news, Commander Kirk Lippold (Ret.), former Commander aboard the U.S.S. Cole when it was bombed on October 12, 2000,
told ABC News that he was “concerned” about the move.

“For some reason the administration says what’s been expressed through the legislature is not sufficient,” Lippold said of the military commissions,
which he said had “undergone extensive legal and legislative review...
They need to allow the process to go forward.”

” In a way, the President tied his administration’s own hands, requiring his Secretary of Defense to drop the charges.
The executive order President Obama signed on closing the Guantanamo Detention Facilities states that “all proceedings” in the US Military Commissions must be “halted”:”

After Tapper’s Britt Humeworthy performance at the White House press briefing today and this-he’s going to vault right up there on Obama’s Enemie’s List.

Saquin, prepare to be flamed by the ones on here that have not grown up. I’m seeing more and more of this crap on here. There are SO MANY legitimate things to go against Obama and the Democrats for, why are so many people on here wasting their time with this nonsense. Are these people really so delusional that they really believe that “Obama is freeing his Muslim brothers?” I am good friends with the mother of one of the USS Cole victims and talked with her just a few minutes ago. She has NO PROBLEM with this, she knows it is just procedural. I think maybe we should be buying stock in the tinfoil industry.

>>> Somebody in D.C. either has an incredible political tin ear or they’re actively undercutting Obama.<<<

Obama's had a bad week. The Iranian's turned him down on his offer of a Ping-Pong tournement! Daschel was sacked before he was voted on. Another appointee had tax problems - withdrew. The Congress Republicans ALL voted No on stimulus.

The guys got to be feeling the heat - and now this. The time to push is when he's unstable. Who - Hillary? It's hard to figure. If it keeps up - then we will know somethings at work.

My guess is its just startup jitters....we'll see if he knows how to manage anything real soon.

I’m thinking the next thing is he will be offering the terrorists universal health care if they will just say they love us! THIS IS DISGUSTING! What are relatives of the people that died in the Cole attack going to think about this?!!

This is very good. I was thinking Carter 2, but really he is King George III redux - crazy, waging war on his own people and king of the most powerful nation on earth.

Who determined we need a 120 day review?

Saquin, prepare to be flamed by the ones on here that have not grown up.

Thanks for the support. I've got my flameproof suit on, though, and have had it on for quite a while. There's been a lot of idiocy on here lately and I call 'em as I see 'em. That means I get called a "DU troll" a lot but I don't particularly care. I care about the truth.

Who determined we need a 120 day review?

Debating whether or not there should be a review or whether Gitmo should be closed or not is certainly a legitimate point for argument and I have no problem with people who do so intelligently. My problem is with the people on these threads who've responded with variations of "OMG! He IS the ani-Christ! He wants us all dead, just like his Muslim brothers do!!"

You pointed out this is procedural because of the 120 day review. Let me point out the answer to my question-OBAMA determined we would have a 120 day review. He was put in the position of having to make this procedural move because HE has determined there must be a 120 day review.

Al-Nashiri will remain in custody.

Until they bring him here from GitMO, and then the lawyers will go running to the closest federal court for a Writ of Habeas Corpus. Then they'll let him go, or blow the whole operation by bringing the evidence into open court.

Clodfelter’s father voiced the same fear. “That does concern me a great deal. I don’t know why it’s taken those people down at Guantanamo … so long to bring this to a climax. It just doesn’t make any sense why they’re waiting so long,” he said.

The story of the Cole is one of frustration. It happened three months before President Clinton left office and was then overshadowed by 9/11. The Clodfelters say both parties’ administrations failed the Cole families.

“Bush never took the time to meet us or question us orm you know, say he’s going to do what he can do,” Gloria Clodfelter told FOX News. “That he’d take care of this.”

And now the politics of Guantanamo are in play. Lippold says the rights of terrorists are being given more priority than the rights of his sailors who died as Americans for their country. “When you say ‘we need to treat detainees fairly,’ what about my crew?” he asked.

The Clodfelters buried their son more than once. The Navy kept finding more of his remains in the sea.

“A year later, they called again, and it’s just … why did they wait until something like that to call and tell this poor child that her husband’s remains are still …” Gloria paused and broke down sobbing. “I’m his mother, but his poor wife. She just went through hell.”

Can you imagine burying your husband and then burying him again because more of his remains were found in the sea?

It may be procedural, I don’t know the law. But this tugs at my heart more than words can express.

Saquin you’re being entirely too rational. Although I do believe that most of these OMG people are just spouting off and don’t actually believe this stuff. If they do, then perhaps the inmates have taken over the asylum. We need to spending our time educating people to good conservative values and working to get the right people elected in the next elections (from the grassroots level on up). Being the laughing stock of the internet is not helping our cause.
