President Barack Obama lobbied the head of Intel Corp. to talk up the more than $800 billion economic recovery package moving through Congress, the chief executive of the world's biggest chip maker said Tuesday.

Paul Otellini said Obama "encouraged" him in a brief phone call Monday to publicly support the stimulus plan that includes billions in public spending to create jobs as well as for unemployment benefits, food stamps, health care and other programs to help victims of the worst recession in decades.

The legislation cleared the Senate Tuesday afternoon and pointed toward House-Senate negotiations that are expected to be difficult.

In reaching out to Otellini, Obama was touching all bases in his campaign for the stimulus, which he said in a televised news conference Monday night must be enacted to avoid deepening the crisis "as well as the pain felt by millions of Americans."

Sounds like Mr. Otellini might have a little power over zero.

Otellini, who first met Obama recently at a dinner in Washington, called the president "very quick" and lauded his ability to poke fun at himself.

Damning the MESSiah with faint praise?

If I'm not mistaken Otellini donates mostly to Repubs (but not all).

Obama looking for support among conservatives in Silicon Valley?

What may be going on....Intel just announced they are going to invest, in America, about 7 billion in research and production facilities.

I am sensing here Otellini may be cozying up to Obama for either stimulus money....or generous tax breaks.

Paul is doing a much better job as CEO than Craig Barrett.
Too bad the GOP stopped listening to people like Paul and Andy Grove and were only interested in $$$. Andy used to be a Republican and a serious anti-communist until the party seemed to be more interested in filling their pockets.

I do disagree with Intel/Microsoft and their H1b policy.
