Al-Jawary has denied involvement in the 1973 New York City bomb plot; he claims his real name is Khaled Mohammed El-Jassem. The FBI to this day remains unsure of his true identity; his nom de guerre was Abu Walid al-Iraqi.

Al-Jawary was a member of Black September, a terrorist group responsible for many lethal attacks, including the killings of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany.

Retired FBI agents John Syron and Jim Phelan, who worked the case in 1973, said freeing Al-Jawary was a mistake. The bombs would have killed many people if they had gone off, they said. "Bad move," Phelan said. "He's not going to change."

The article does not explain why he is being released. Just because, I guess. We can probably expect the release of Moussaoui and Ramzey Youssef, also in Supermax, any day now.

SEPTEMBER 1970 "BLACK SEPTEMBER" : (PFLP HIJACKINGS --- See NICARAGUAN SANDINISTAS) ....."Revolution Airport" In September 1970, also known as "Black September", the world assists to the most impressive hijack series in the world. The Popular Front for Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) hijacked four aircraft to free Palestinian prisioners in Switzerland and West Germany, and as a form of intimidaton for Israel. It all starts on September 6, as a TWA Boeing 707, bound for New York, is hijacked after take-off from Frankfurt. Two terrorists force the pilot to turn South, to the Mediterranean Sea. Later, a Swissair DC-8, leaving Zurich, is hijacked by two men and a woman. The two aircraft land in Dawson's Field, a former RAF base in Zarga, Jordan. The landing strip is renamed "Revolution Airport" for the occasion.
The third aircraft, an El Al 707, was rather part of an ATTEMPT. Leila Khaled, a Palestinian guerrilla and a Nicaraguan-American named Patrick Arguello, are equipped with hand grenades and a pistol. Right at the beginning of the hijack attempt, Arguello is shot by a security officer.
The aircraft lands in Heathrow and Khaled is handed over to the British authorities. In reply to this situation, the PFLP hijacks a British aircraft, a BOAC VC-10, to force the U.K. to free Khaled. The hijack occurs on September 9. In the meantime, a Pan Am Boeing 747 is hijacked by two Palestinians and lands in Beirut for refueling. After that, since the 747 is noticed to be unable to land in Dawson's Field's short runway, the aircraft is redirected to Cairo and destroyed.
The PFLP sends an ultimatum to U.K., West Germany and Switzerland to free the Palestinian prisoners. In the meantime, the 127 women and children from the Swissair and TWA aircraft, plus 114 passengers from the BOAC plane, are held in hotels in Amman while the PFLP keeps their passports. On the sixth day of the crisis, the PFLP gets a reply in extremis that the prisoners are freed, but in despite of that, the passengers remaining on the aircraft are directed to Amman and the 3 aircraft are blown down.........
