Another progressive talker falls victim to the rightwing corporate stranglehold of our public airwaves... The Peter B. Collins Show will come to an end, as of next Friday, according to an announcement by Collins on today's broadcast. After nearly five years on the air, the economic climate, and the stranglehold of rightwing corporate control over the public's airwaves has made it impossible for him to continue.(snip)
...heartbreaking, but hardly surprising in today's climate for nearly everyone but the vast majority of rightwing whackjob radio hosts propped up by rightwing corporate interests.
After a quick segment, during our appearance on today's show, discussing a number of this week's developments in elections issues, we turned to the matter of his leaving the air, and our belief that the playing field is indisputably rigged against non-rightwing talk radio. It's not a matter of "Progressive Talk" having failed in America, it's a matter of progressives, to this day, not having been given a level playing field on which to compete. Period.
(snip)
As our friend and progressive talker Thom Hartmann pointed out on his show this morning, Stephanie Miller, another friend and progressive radio host, noted that she's syndicated on some 60 affiliates from 9 to Noon ET each weekday, while rightwing whack-job Laura Ingraham is on some 300 stations during that same time slot. Yet, Hartmann noted, Miller beats Ingraham in almost every single market where they air at the same time. Does that sound like fair competition, or that "Progressive Talk" has failed? We haven't failed, corporate America, however, has failed you.

>>propped up by rightwing corporate interests.
Not like that George Soros...described by the conservative humor site The People’s Cube as a “GOOD capitalist pig”!
Free market. It sucks when you suck.
Who is Peter B. Collins? Never mind, I don’t care...
>>she’s syndicated on some 60 affiliates from 9 to Noon ET each weekday, while rightwing whack-job Laura Ingraham is on some 300 stations
300 vs. 60..Wonder why. (And I doubt that the daughter of William Miller is beating Laura in the ratings!)
Yup. We ran "Nazi Public Radio" out in short order, didn't we?
Mr Collins explains his departure.
Whoever he is, he’s being thrown off the air by the right wing conspiracy :)
yes they conveniently forget there already IS a prominent nationwide liberal network, and it’s taxpayer funded: NPR!
These so called "progressive" messages (read Marxist messages) just do not sell when they are out there in front of people on their face.
Nope, pols and others have to hide and camouflage them as something they are not to get them past people.
But Obama and his ilk in the Hosue and Senate know this and that is why they are so desperately trying to undermine talk radio and the net.

(Air America Host): “So these big corporations are just plain evil and they exploit their workers! We need to stop them!
Walmart especially! All right, well we need to take a break so let’s pause for this...public service announcement...”
(Mic turned off, yells at producer): “You’re saying we’re not finding ANYONE to sponsor us???”

>>and WWZN-AM Boston will now be the new East Coast home for his show.
Not any more. Gone!
>>Collins radio career spans decades, starting in Chicago in the 1970’s, as an air personality and talk show host at ABC-owned WLS-FM
And now he’s off the air...darn conservatives! :)
“In five years, we’ll be on 600 stations”— then-Air America head Jon Sinton, quoted in a 2004 Boston Globe
article. It’s five years later. They are nowhere near
his prediction.

Well that was quick! Mere weeks after the Rhodes show went off (they promise she’ll return somehow) they switch to Collins and-—oops, he’s gone. If they had a good product they would get affiliates and make money. They don’t so they try to bring back the unFairness Doctrine. And now this.
How unfair to make them compete in the free market!
Indeed, that bit about the rightwing corporate strangehold wasn’t me trying to be sarcastic. It was by a lib, who BELIEVES it. How about the fact that the Rush Limbaughs of the world put out a product people want to listen to and it succeeds? Mostly because he’s an alternative to the lib dominated media elsewhere; “I _am_ equal time” (R.L.)
Obama will appoint him head of the USDTR, US Department of Talk Radio...
I heard Mike Malloy (just channel chasing, I promise) whine about how horrible it was that they still hadn’t been able to find a suitable replacement for Randi Rhodes (not her real name) on Air America. And, of course, it was all about how ‘everybody’ wanted progressive radio but they were being denied it by the forces of evil.
Maybe The One will spend (our) money so everyone in the US can get a satellite radio for their car and thus pick up “America Left”...
