US Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) is probably among the most despised members of Congress these days. As Chairman of the House Banking Committee, most people have seen his arrogant, condescending manner in various television interviews over the past several months. Well, it turns out that not everyone is upset with ol' Barney. Boston-based Fidelity Investments wants to make sure that Frank wins his next election. So a few weeks ago they "reached out" to him and threw a fund-raiser for Frank at their downtown Boston offices, netting $28,000 for Frank's campaign fund, which was reported in the Boston Herald last week.

What the heck does Barney Frank need a campaign fund. He easily wins every election. There must be more information that we aren’t privy too.

Don’t get me started about the ongoing “political ignorance” and the ongoing “political stupidity” of the majority of Massachusetts voters!

Fidelity “reached out” to him or gave him a reacharound?

The depth of stupidity exhibited by Bay State voters has no bottom.

Accordingly, it is time for me to, once again, recite the updated slogan of Massachusetts:

“No tax is too big; no outrage is too small; and no sacrifice is necessary.”

Amen.

What really bad stuff do you know about Vanguard? I have my teeny weeny IRA — what’s left of it, with them.

"Do you really have investments with Fidelity?"

I do-- a self-managed IRA, pretty fair amount altogether. It's the result of rolling over a 401(k) years ago. I do a lot of trading in it and have grown it nicely. Of course, buying a hunk of Apple in 1997 helped... ;-)

Any suggestions from my fellow Freepers on where to move my IRA to? I've been happy with Fidelity. Good website research tools, reasonable commissions, responsive support, and they offer trailing-stop-loss orders (not all brokers do) which are invaluable in markets like this one lately. Any suggestions, on this thread or by private message, would be very welcome, as this news makes me want to hurl. Damned if I want my commissions and fees subsidizing this marxist, the one person most responsible for the financial meltdown and a detestable, corrupt piece of work in all respects.

I use Janus Fund and Janus Worldwide, American New Perspective Fund, T Rowe Price Science and Technology and T Rowe Price Blue Chip Mutuals. However, I can’t say that they are better than Fidelity. I wish you the best of luck in your decision. Just keep in mind that every mutual fund probably does this for all the Democrats and Republicans. It is just that Fidelity just got a story out of it this time. Good Luck FRiend!!!

My business with Fidelity just ended too. I have a substantial 401K with Fidelity and I am going to roll it to another investment with another company. I will tell them why when I move the funds. Thanks for this heads up. We don't hear about things like this in Florida.

I’ll be looking at other family funds, Vanguard, JANUS, and T. Rowe Price, or building my own folio.

I can do open a trading account through my bank (Bank of America...:0) or through my Credit Union, each cheaper than Ameritrade etc

It's not personal - it's business. Barney runs the protection racket and the bosses are just paying "tribute". Capice?
