The government will be Chinese. The protesters are Muslims similar to the Muslims from the ‘stan regions of the former USSR. There have always been problems. The Muslims think everyone conspires against them. They think the Chinese sneak pork into their food. The Chinese aren’t as liberal minded as Europe and the US regarding worship. Eventually, the Chinese will put down the riots. The Chinese do not have to be as stealthy as the rest of the world. They can “bulletize” a few mullahs and no one will say anything.

China is CINO now. Anyone can start a business there now.

I'm also hearing that the Uyghurs are unhappy over the influx of Han Chinese into their areas, and thing the long term plan is to displace them.

We will see what happens when a regime as ruthless as the ChiComs encounter internal Muslim resistance. The only thing that might lessen their response would be worries about a global Muslim backlash against China in general.

But can you RUN a business without substantial payoffs to various Party members?

China doesn’t care what the rest of the world thinks. The Uyghurs have always been a bit of trouble. The Han move in because they need someplace to go. China feels like everyone just needs to get along. If they don’t get along, it’s the fault of “rogue elements” that will be “purged”. The Uyghurs haven’t been a ton of trouble until now. The LAST thing that China wants is a problem on its western border.
I bet the problem just fixes itself.

According to Wikipedia, the population of Urumqi is 75.3% Han Chinese, 12.8% Uyghurs, 8.0% Hui and 2.3% Kazakhs and Kyrgyz. So looks like the Chinese ethic cleansing is working there.

You can now. Party members aren’t as plentiful anymore. Party membership gives you the ability to break the rules that everyone else has to follow. But several Party members have been shot recently for taking bribes that resulted in the death of citizens. That hurts recruitment.

I just read a series of books on food in China. Opening a restaurant is simply a matter of money now. Inspections are checked by bribes. Competition is fierce. Famous foreigners get better treatment than party officials. It’s is almost a libertarian environment. Kinda strange really.

That last photo -- of the high-rises on fire from the top down -- are really scary. Those appear to be residence blocks (apartments). Why would folks torch their own homes?

Simultaneous fires atop three high-rises takes quite a bit of coordination. Air-drops? Are we seeing government retaliation against the populace?

“Why would folks torch their own homes?” Muzzies! They burn their fellow countrymen’s homes for the same reason mooselimbs slaughter fellow mooselimbs with suicide bombings when trying to foment chaos ... Al Qaeda has been trying to generate a hate backlash against mooselimbs for decades, in the hope that worldwide chaos will pit mooselimbs against ALL infidels. Until Mecca is turned into a glass covered parking lot, they will continue because they are of their father, the father of lies a murderer from the start.

The photo of the man on his back with a head injury,
the only reason to lay like that is because you’re in
handcuffs.

"Muzzies! "

You're "preaching to the choir". (See my tagline.)

HOWEVER -- You both ignored my real point: multiple, simultaneous fires (at a near-identical stage of development) atop multiple high-rises are indicative of coordination and access that is not likely for an uncontrolled mob. The evidence points to something much more sophisticated than random violence -- as in government action.

I don’t think they are torching their own homes, since this is a xenophobic rampage. Majority of the citizens of that city are Han Chinese, something like 75% or more, I don’t know the exact figure. The angry muslims are targeting innocent Han Chinese civilians. This reminds me of the anti-Chinese riots in Indonesia by muslim mobs looking for a scapegoat for their poor economical lives, so they targeted the richer harder-working chinese. Once muslims see the real reason for their plight, their own religion, they might actually get somewhere.

The Chinese are dealing with a restless Caucasian (Turkic) minority. The rest of the world will avert its eyes, since Caucasians are fair game.

This is quite different. The Indonesian Malays did not have their land confiscated from under them and handed over to the Chinese, as happened to the Uighurs. Xinjiang (China's name for East Turkistan) is 20% of China's territory, and all of this land has been stolen from Uighurs and put in Chinese hands.
