Iranian police have fired tear gas at hundreds of demonstrators who defied government warnings that any fresh attempt at protests would be "smashed".

The marchers were heading towards Tehran University to commemorate the 10th anniversary of student unrest.

All gatherings have been banned in a crackdown on mass protests that erupted after the disputed election of 12 June.

The BBC's Jon Leyne says the opposition is trying to put momentum back into the campaign against the vote result.

Our correspondent says there were also a number of smaller demonstrations in other Iranian cities.

The Beeb is certainly slipping in its fabled mastery of the English language. (does this headline mean that they are firing “tear gas” at protesters, or are they tearing-up protesters who are upset over high gas prices??)

Sub0’s firm response to the crisis must have scared the Muddahs, they are only using tear gas now instead of bullets.

If only Neda had waited a couple of weeks to stand up for her rights; she'd be crying instead of dead.

So how long do we have before scenes like this take place in the US?

Perhaps if they prohibit the Tea Parties, but I do not expect any student activism on campuses in support of Conservativism. This generation of students has already been indoctrinated by the NEA-run schools, Hollywood and the MSM.

Why waste tear gas when machetes have worked so well?

(p.s. this is not a joke.)

Well, since Obama is shipping in palestrash by the thousand, I suspect it will be at the next elections, hamass having been the enforcers of the Iranian thug’s regime.

I happened to see a Fox correspondent from London who indicated that the rallies are nimble, staying a step ahead of the brute squads, and still in public places.

What about everyday citizen activism?

The red states along the Bible Belt are a massive fertile and ideal recruiting ground.

Try to recruit many others by talking to them about their beliefs, and so forth, and if they are like you, let them join your side.
