Jean Shaheen (Socialist - NH) is having a "Telephone Townhall Meeting" this evening

Posted on 08/06/2009 6:47:59 AM PDT by Redleg Duke

I was called the other night by a recording of Senator Jean Shaheen (Socialist - NH), inviting me to "join her in a telephone townhall meeting" this evening (Thursday, August 6, 2009). I was told I could opt out by calling her Washington office.

I have noticed a flood of "telephone townhall meetings" by the RAT Party. They obviously have decided that this is a safe venue for them, where they can cut off anyone who dares to question the party line.

I called her office this morning to opt out of the telecon. I told her flunky that if she didn't have the courage and courtesey to face her constituents, she had nothing of value to say. I also told him that I didn't want my contact information forwarded to the White House "snitch" link. He claimed to know nothing about that program.

How do we fight the "telephone townhall" gambit?

Quite a few are having “telephone” townhalls. It keeps the protests out of the news. And makes voters even angrier. The Dems are being incredibly stupid. I hope they keep showing their true colors to the waking sheep.

"How do we fight the "telephone townhall" gambit?"

snip their phone lines just as the show starts.

You fight it by 1) signing up and giving a mild-sounding question that you want to ask (”How will the prescription drug benefit work under the reform plan you support?” or something similar.) Once you get to talk, say what you want.

Ignore the “phone-y” townhall meetings and show up on their front lawns. Bring posters and banners, notify the media.

Won’t work. All they’d have to do is put them on “delay” as they do on the radio, and they can eliminate ideas they don’t like.

Have a town hall meeting. Put a life sized cutout of the cowardly congressperson up front and have at it. Get plenty of video, esp. of the motionless and silent cutout. Invite your local newspaper to cover the event.

Report Shaheen’s decision to Drudge, Rush, Hannity, Beck, O’Reilly, Levin.

Anyone opting out of facing their constituents should be told that you will be walking door to door to ensure that they are not ever elected to any office again. I would add that you are going to go on the Internet and ask other voters in their districts to do the same.

Sign the DeathCare and you’re TOAST is the message.

The same is going on with my socialist rep, Mark Schauer (D-MI). He cancelled his live town halls in favor of phone-ins.

There are going to be protests outside his office in downtown Jackson, starting next Thursday. I’ll be getting my signs ready.

That won't work. They have a 15 minute delay (or even more) in which they can edit out and replace any calls that don't go how they would like.

We should fight it exactly the way you did. Tell their office why you find this cowardly behavior anti-democratic and post a vanity about it here so people can find out who is refusing to face constituents.

Good work.

The self styled "Blue Dog" from Tucson Giffords tried the same scam here. They are all marching to San Fran Nan's drumbeat.

It would be a good idea to organize “citizen’s townhall meetings.” Invite the congresscritters and the media, then make a point of how our “representatives” won’t show up to answer their constituents.

Are you sure? The ones I have participated in didn’t have the delay technology. The calls are in real time, not radio time. This development, in and of itself, is a weenie tactic.

These phone ins are nothing more than scripted advertisements.

I like the idea of having a real town hall with a cardboard cut out of the RAT, and real questions asked by real constituents and answered by a moderator spelling out the disastrous consequences of government run health care.

Excellent idea. I hope you’ll repost it on some of these threads about cowardly civil servants (hey, they work for US) ducking out of townhall meetings.

You can bet they will in this situation. These are Democrats remember. They want only their positive message to go out, not the negative.

Delegitimize it just as you did.

Write letters to the newspapers and on-line services, leave comments describing their cowardice and alienation from their constituents...and RAISE HELL!

Write emails complaining about being out of touch, Hammer them publicly and privately again and again and again. Talk to your neighbors and friends encourage them to do the same...it's a (legitimate) grass-roots movement.

We will not be silenced, we will not be ignored, we will not be betrayed by our "representatives."

And should the unthinkable happen and they vote against the will and good of the people, never ever forget it. Carry that betrayal as a torch during their re-election campaign. Let it follow them wherever they go on the cammpaign trail.

But do you know for sure? Does Congressional IT have this technology? Has anyone participated in a congressional teleconference when it was used? Just asking.
