Health care and illegal immigrants
They were the words heard 'round the world. "You lie!"
That was Rep. Joe Wilson's retort to President Obama's statement last week that his health care reforms would not insure illegal immigrants. The president had said, in his address to Congress, "There are also those who claim that our reform efforts would insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false. The reforms -- the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally."
That's when the gentleman from South Carolina shouted that the president was lying. He later apologized. The House voted to admonish Wilson Tuesday.
But many Americans have been left wondering who's telling the truth.
Our reading of HR3200, the leading health care reform bill in the House, leads us to conclude that the president is telling the truth. But like many issues in the health care debate, this is not a simple, black-and-white question, because the language in the bill is complicated.

The president knew that with the current wording - even without explicitly saying we are going to cover illegals - that illegals would be covered. Therefore, he was lying. Of course most of his speech was a lie, so the honorable Joe Wilson had his choice of when to shout.
I don’t think BO was ‘lying’ in this case. I don’t think he knows what is in the bill. He has to ask Acorn and Soros.
Is 0bama telling the truth? Yes, but..., and we know what that means. Yes, there is language about illegals not getting 0bamacare, BUT there is also language that nullifies what 0bama says. Therefore, the answer is 0bama did lie.
In the House bill, Obama’s Health Czar would determine eligibility.
This is why we do not like these czars, they have too much power with no check or balance.
This is a teaching moment for those on the fence about Van Jones and the rest of the czars.
The false bravado and bluster in his public speaking is just part of his technique for evasion. You can hear that in Reverend Wright's speaking ~ evasion or intent to be evasive.
When you hear that style it means the speaker is telling a lie or is going to tell a lie.
Most of you first heard it used in Animal House when the the Delta House president (Otter) defended his fraternity at the trial by blaming everybody else.
" Otter: But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen! [Leads the Deltas out of the hearing, all humming the Star-Spangled Banner] "
Everyone had a good laugh. The folks from Trinity COC don't understand humor ~ they actually believe people are tricked by the technique ~ and certainly the Democrats are easily tricked.
The rest of us aren't trick, and Wilson put his finger on the problem ~ Obama is a liar.
Rush put it best. If this bill intended to exclude illegals and abortions, then why didn’t the Hispanics and Feminists blow a gasket.
They kept eerily silent...and that speaks even louder than Representative Wilson.
Also interesting is Obama’s use of the word “reform”, 3 times in one sentence.
...obviously a focus-group determined term.
I believe that Obama fully intends to cover illegals.
You are much more generous with the benefit of doubt than I am, I suppose.
Rush put it best. If this bill intended to exclude illegals and abortions, then why didnt the Hispanics and Feminists blow a gasket.
I can see them in the White House saying something like "why didn't we get Hispanic Acorn workers to protest this bill". It could still happen!
I suppose, my real point was that he doesn’t know whats in the bills because he’s not involved with writing them.
He is aware of the agenda and FULLY supports the agenda.
“this is not a simple, black-and-white question...”
Yaa.this is where the Ivy League spinmeisters earn their stripes....
“I can see them in the White House saying something like “why didn’t we get Hispanic Acorn workers to protest this bill”. It could still happen!”
I can see your point...it took me a minute. That would have been a very high risk strategy, as you would have had to convince them that they were covered, while getting them to act as if they were not covered.
