Sen. Joseph Lieberman, speaking in that trademark sonorous baritone, utters a simple statement that translates into real trouble for Democratic leaders: "I'm going to be stubborn on this."
Stubborn, he means, in opposing any health-care overhaul that includes a "public option," or government-run health-insurance plan, as the current bill does. His opposition is strong enough that Mr. Lieberman says he won't vote to let a bill come to a final vote if a public option is included.
Probe for a catch or caveat in that opposition, and none is visible. Can he support a public option if states could opt out of the plan, as the current bill provides? "The answer is no," he says in an interview from his Senate office. "I feel very strongly about this." How about a trigger, a mechanism for including a public option along with a provision saying it won't be used unless private insurance plans aren't spreading coverage far and fast enough? No again.
So any version of a public option will compel Mr. Lieberman to vote against bringing a bill to a final vote? "Correct," he says.

Sonorous baritone? The guy sounds like Willie from Alf.
Unfortunately, this is all theater. Oh, the Democrats are taking their time, hearing their members’ concerns, hammering out the best darn bill ever. And, in the end, no matter what, it’ll pass. If we have to rely on blue dogs and Lieberman, get ready to feel the knife.
after he votes for cloture. And let me guess, that senator from LA, and the one from AK and NE will all vote against healthcare, and it’ll squeeze through the senate by one vote.
The games these slimes play...
More conservative that Olympia Snow
“Tell the world what you’re going to do but show it first!”
He’ll vote for it in the end. I wish he wouldn’t, but lets be honest here. The chance of him denying Obama his health care plan is non existent IMO. Somehow he’ll find a loop-hole so he can gift the nation with something “it really needs”.
I think we’re being jobbed here.
Public Option or not, Whatever those dumba$$es in Washington do it will destroy the greatest medical industry in the world. Every problem with the health care system now is a response to the government being involved in one way or another.
So Reid will take it out, pass the bill, put it back in conference and presto -— 51 votes and done. Does he think we are stupid ...
It’s all a scam ...
Is he objecting on principle, or, as Rush put it, is this just the opening bid for negotiations?
At least she voted along the party line this time.
Hey Joe whats your Price ?
I wouldn’t trust him as far as the circumference of Jerrold Nadler’s neck.
That’s okay Joe, Snowe or Collins will cover for you.
One of only a very, very few in Washington who has brains, integrity, AND guts. The people of Connecticut should be very proud of their senator...especially since he operates so effectively in such a sea of corruption and human gutter trash!!
What, Harry? You have a new idea? The Ublic Poption, eh? Hmmmmm.....sounds fascinating. I think I just might be able to go for something like that!"

You might want to check on who voted to bring this monster to the Senate floor, and who didn’t. Olympia may meet our definition of a RINO, but considering this vote and that she supported virtually ALL of Bushes judges, she is far more conservative than ANY Democrat in the Senate.
Do ANY of you guys think that a Democrat from Maine would vote against this bill? No. Then my point is made.
Sorry.
Can Lieberman single-handedly bring down the Democrats' public option plan?
When it’s all said and done, he’ll vote for it. Same thing with Nelson, Bayh, Lincoln and all the other so called “moderate, fiscally conservative” Democrats.
The is no such thing as a moderate or conservative Democrat. They are all bold faced Liberals from the nose to their toes.
