Poll: Obama still very popular among African-Americans, but 'thrill is gone'

African-Americans are extremely supportive of President Obama, but their enthusiasm appears to have dramatically dropped from earlier this year, according to a new national poll.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey, released Tuesday, also indicates that Obama's presidency appears to have made blacks more optimistic about race relations, but less than one in five believe the new president has ushered in a new era of race relations in the country.

More than nine in 10 blacks questioned in the poll approve of the job Obama's doing in the White House, far higher than 42 percent of whites who approve of his performance as president.

But when asked how they personally feel about Obama's presidency, only 42 percent of black respondents say they're thrilled, with nearly half of those questioned saying they are happy but not thrilled.

The 42 percent who are thrilled is down from 61 percent in January, when Obama was inaugurated.

[CNN Polling Director Keating Holland] added, "Not surprisingly, whites are less supportive of Obama, although for a notable number of whites, their negative view of the president is due to the perception that he's not been liberal enough."

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll was conducted December 16-20, with 1,160 adult Americans, including 259 African-Americans and 786 whites, questioned by telephone.

If it's any consolation, the Big Obozo still gives me a thrill down my leg.

Still waiting for their free stuff and the jobs in which they do not have to actually work.

Mark Steyn (filling in for Rush) asked, “Where are all the Obama bumper stickers?”

Is all that needs to be said about how I fell about race relations at this point

It’s like Milli Vanilli. Once everyone knew it was a scam, it seemed like a joke to say you ever liked ‘em.

>> 259 African-Americans and 786 whites

Wouldn’t it make sense to say Blacks or European-Americans? At least Whites instead of whites.

Has any pollster ever asked people if they were “thrilled” about a president before? Brand new for me.

The only tingle down my leg is the “flight response” urge to up sticks and get the heck outta here before O Bummer turns the U.S. into a larger version of Zimbabwe.

Our first Affirmative Action President is the sad culmination of an era of feelings, instead of reason. We will pay the price for this folly for a long, long time.

African-Americans are still big fans of the first black president in U.S. history,

Blacks are thrilled of the first black president, not specifically of Mr Hussein Obama. Mr Hussein O just happens to fill that role. I wonder what blacks would have thought of a President Keyes or a President Thomas... or heck, even a President Snerdly.

I wonder when they will finally realize that the two places Obama has directed federal funding for abortions are Washington, DC (90% African-American) and Africa (100% African). Margaret Sanger would be thrilled at this kind of racial genocide.

“””African-Americans are extremely supportive of President Obama””””

Which pundit will be first to call out blacks for this racism? If it said that whites were extremely supportive of a white president, there would be an expose on the remaining racism in this country.

FWIW: they are black, not African-American. Very few blacks were actually born in Africa. They are black Americans just like I am white American. They don’t call me German-American just because my ancestors came here from Germany 200 years ago.

I’m just curious.

In light of all that he has done so far, Porkulus, eternal unemployment benefits, guaranteed obamacare, cash for clunkers, etc... just what exactly are blacks expecting from him?

I think they’d be more accurate using the terms “Negroids” and “Caucasians”.
