Nine months after he penned a memo laying out the arguments for health care legislation's destruction, Republican message guru Frank Luntz has put together a playbook to help derail financial regulatory reform.

In a 17-page memo titled, "The Language of Financial Reform," Luntz urged opponents of reform to frame the final product as filled with bank bailouts, lobbyist loopholes, and additional layers of complicated government bureaucracy.

"If there is one thing we can all agree on, it's that the bad decisions and harmful policies by Washington bureaucrats that in many ways led to the economic crash must never be repeated," Luntz wrote. "This is your critical advantage. Washington's incompetence is the common ground on which you can build support."

Uh huh.

So the bad decisions and harmful practices of Washington bureaucrats were all Democrats?

I think not.

I don't agree with everything the author writes and his terminology is sometimes coarse, but his analysis is worth thinking about.

The political class sees themselves as a ruling elite. Royalty. The political party is used as a tool to gain access to royal positions. It has little meaning to the scumbags in the political class.

Not true. Whatever the government touches turns to disaster. Financial reform is not necessary. Government reform is necessary.

I think not.

The point he is trying to make is that old-line Republicans in the past have contributed mightily to our current malaise, and he's right about that, but the new, successful emergence of the Tea Party as a liberating force has the promise to change that.

As many have pointed out elsewhere, America remains a strong Center/Right country, and the Tea Party is giving foot (and voice) to so many of those who in the past have felt unempowered and disenfranchised by the rise of the Liberal (omnipotent) State.

The pendulum is starting to swing the other way, and while there is a lot of work to be done, we have momentum and dynamics on our side, as well as an opposition that seems hell bent on committing political suicide.

As the Left, in their early ascendant years, used to point out, you don't need to be a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing.

Great change is in the air, and in the offing. We do this right, we can save the Republic.

Luntz lost credibility when he voted for Obama.

If the Republicans come out against regulatory reform, with an argument of simply, “let the markets rule” they will lose the momentum the have. If they wish to oppose the plans being presented they better counter them point by point not by large sweeping general statements like that or they will lose a of the anti-democratic support they are now seeing.
