So, (and this is a very honest question that my spouse and I have discussed multiple times since reading it)... you don’t think that just like they now take 50% or more of the Earner’s income in taxes, they won’t come and “appropriate” your food when “the collective” is going hungry? Or, the mobs won’t come and take your food when they are hungry?
You read it and you actually think you can fight off the fed gov’t or hundreds of hungry mob members who have been taught to believe that those who have things are bad people?
Again, honest question.

always wondered if it would work to just replace solenoids and such in an older car...like War of the Worlds. Why would an EMP fry a solenoid in a car that’s not running, but
do nothing to a solenoid on the shelf in the garage?
Well, what you do is set aside some smaller care packets, have them all made up and ready to give away. Make it clear if you help someone out it’s a one time deal, and point them in the direction of the closest pantry or government help. You can’t give away your core foodstuffs, you are not obligated to give away all your food you’ve set aside to be responsible and not a burden on others. You have responsibilities - the others that depend on you, even if they are your animals. The longer you can live the longer you can still help out others or bug out to a place you can live to be useful. You don’t store up stuff so that strangers can come and kill you and reap the benefits of your hard work and planning. Then you may as well not even be doing it at all.

Lets talk about canning..if you are looking to pressure can
you cannot use a glass top stove..nor an outside propane barbeque cooker with a side burner...I am working on changing out my glass top for an electric stove...I may have to look in the dump for it..preferably a gas top stove. Unfortunately for me..I don’t have the gas top option. Will be hitting the farmers market this spring to find good canning stuff.

Great question on the solenoid... I don’t know. Sounds like you know much more about those than I do. Much older cars are all that is left after EMP attack in One Second After.
The book is good for showing just how fast society breaks down and what all will be affected... dialogue sucks... just my personal opinion... but glad I read it.

My plan is to take the perishables to the parish, but the longterm storage supplies I have are for my own family. The wise virgins didn't share their oil.
I'm going to get a trio of rabbits for pets and breed them once a year to keep their reproductive systems in order. You might consider doing the same. In an emergency, the offspring will be vittles.
The greenhouse is my next project and the rabbits are after that.

However, IMHO, the most important starting point is the storing of weapons and lots and lots of ammo.
Otherwise, eventually, your stored supplies will be used only by others...not necessarily strangers.
