Islamic scholar Tahir ul-Qadri issues terrorism fatwa (global ruling)
BBC ^ | March 2, 2010 | Dominic Casciani

An influential Muslim scholar has issued a global ruling against terrorism and suicide bombing.

Dr Tahir ul-Qadri, from Pakistan, says his 600-page judgement, known as a fatwa, completely dismantles al-Qaeda's violent ideology.

The scholar describes al-Qaeda as an "old evil with a new name" that has not been sufficiently challenged.

The scholar's movement is growing in the UK and has attracted the interest of policymakers and security chiefs.

In his religious ruling, delivered in London, Dr Qadri says that Islam forbids the massacre of innocent citizens and suicide bombings.

Although many scholars have made similar rulings in the past, Dr Qadri argued that his massive document goes much further by omitting "ifs and buts" added by other thinkers.

He said that it set out a point-by-point theological rebuttal of every argument used by al-Qaeda inspired recruiters.

The populist scholar developed his document last year as a response to the increase in bombings across Pakistan by militants.

'Heroes of hellfire'

The basic text has been extended to 600 pages to cover global issues, in an attempt to get its theological arguments taken up by Muslims in Western nations. It will be promoted in the UK by Dr Qadri's organisation, Minhaj ul-Quran International.

Dr Qadri spoke for more than hour to an audience of Muslims, clergy, MPs, police officers and other security officials.

"They [terrorists] can't claim that their suicide bombings are martyrdom operations and that they become the heroes of the Muslim Umma [global brotherhood]. No, they become heroes of hellfire, and they are leading towards hellfire," he said.

"There is no place for any martyrdom and their act is never, ever to be considered jihad."

Acts of vengeance

The document is not the first to condemn terrorism and suicide bombing to be launched in the UK.

Christianity (not the religion itself, but so called followers of the religion) eventually overcame it’s “kill anyone who doesn’t convert” mentality and I pray that this Muslim leader will lead the way for Islam to follow suit.

I want to make a note that I understand the vast difference between Christianity and Islam (primarily that Jesus was a loving and forgiving Savior and Mohammed was a violent pedophile), but that people abused the name of Christ to enforce political power. Ironically, I think the same abuse is being used with Islam. If Christians can overcome using violent verses as excuses from the Old Testament, Islam can overcome it’s violent instructions in the Koran.

Hope I haven’t angered any Freepers, just some thoughts about this. Either way, this is a good thing. I just hope this guy can keep his head. Too many scumbags out there get their power from issuing terroristic fatwas.

I suppose this is good news. But, it's a little bit like having the Pope issue an edict and expecting the backwoods Appalachian snake handlers church to abide by it.

Too little, too late. This should have been done years ago, but no, you didnt hear a peep out of their so called “holy men”. Now, it means nothing because the rest of the muzzies are just gonna say that this guy is in the back pocket of the “infidels”. Just a waste of time, sad to say.

Gosh I hope you are wrong.. I think this is good news if in fact there is a movement lining up with him. Eventually it will marginalize the terrorists in their own communities...hopefully.

Although many scholars have made similar rulings in the past, Dr Qadri argued that his massive document ...

As they say, 'The proof will be in the pudding'.

When there are consistent and tangible results over several decades (and not just enough time to reload), then I'll be somewhat more inclined to be a bit less skeptical about these sorts of edicts at that time.

Maybe they should completely dismantle the Koran and Hadith next. That will help end violence.

The Koran:

Sura (2:191-193) - "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution of Muslims is worse than slaughter of non-believers...and fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah."

Sura (4:74) - "Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward."

Sura (4:76) - "Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah…"

Sura (5:33) - "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement"

Sura (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"

Sura (8:39) - "And fight with them until there is no more persecution and religion should be only for Allah"

Sura (8:57) - "If thou comest on them in the war, deal with them so as to strike fear in those who are behind them, that haply they may remember."

Sura (9:14) - "Fight them, Allah will punish them by your hands and bring them to disgrace..."

Sura (9:29) - "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, even if they are of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."

Sura (9:30) - "And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!"

Sura (9:123) - "O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness."

Sura (47:4) - "So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make them prisoners,"

Sura (61:4) - "Surely Allah loves those who fight in His way"

Sura (66:9) - "O Prophet! Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be stern with them. Hell will be their home, a hapless journey's end

From the Hadith:

Muslim (1:33) - the Messenger of Allah said: I have been commanded to fight against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah

Bukhari (8:387) - Allah's Apostle said, “I have been ordered to fight the people till they say: 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah’”

Tabari 7:97 The morning after the murder of Ashraf, the Prophet declared, "Kill any Jew who falls under your power."

Ibn Ishaq: 327 - “Allah said, ‘A prophet must slaughter before collecting captives. A slaughtered enemy is driven from the land. Muhammad, you craved the desires of this world, its goods and the ransom captives would bring. But Allah desires killing them to manifest the religion.’”

Ibn Ishaq: 992 - "Fight everyone in the way of Allah and kill those who disbelieve in Allah."

The Koran and hadiths are replete with examples of Muhammad's barbaric behavior. Robert Spencer does a good job here explaining Islam - Blogging the Qur’an Start at the bottom.

Amazing to me that this mullah suddenly decided that killing innocents was wrong only after it was the innocents around him, in Pocky-stahn that were being slaughtered...

Oh well... we'll take good news wherever we can find it. This is a refreshing change.

Would anyone here sell life insurance to this guy?

If they would stop the violence, bombing, terrorism, forced marriages, genital mutilation, raping and coercing people to join their group, they would be really nice people.

"If Christians can overcome using violent verses as excuses from the Old Testament, Islam can overcome it’s violent instructions in the Koran." Wrong, absurd conclusion.

You are making a routine mistake of equivalency between faiths. The two religions couldn't be anymore dissimilar.

Islam by it's own admission is inherently violent. Islam is based upon greed, lust and murder! Islam grants it's adherants license to commit the worst acts imaginable with a license from god.

That's why it's so seductive toward men. If you read the koran, you will notice a complete lack of stories about peace, compassion and love. The Bible is all about compassion! It rarely speaks about man's baser instincts, the koran is all about appealling to the worst contents of man's character.

Jesus was a loving and forgiving Savior and Mohammed was a violent pedophile

The difference between Islam and Christianity is clear. Christians will forgive. Muslims will kill.

Killing is the nature of their religion. You see the first example played out today in Islamic countries. Somali adulterer stoned to death

The example of Mohamed on forgivness Sahih Muslim, Book 17: 4206

There came to him (the Holy Prophet) a woman from Ghamid and said: Allah's Messenger, I have committed adultery, so purify me. He (the Holy Prophet) turned her away. On the following day she said: Allah's Messenger, Why do you turn me away? Perhaps, you turn me away as you turned away Ma'iz. By Allah, I have become pregnant. He said: Well, if you insist upon it, then go away until you give birth to (the child). When she was delivered she came with the child (wrapped) in a rag and said: Here is the child whom I have given birth to. He said: Go away and suckle him until you wean him. When she had weaned him, she came to him (the Holy Prophet) with the child who was holding a piece of bread in his hand. She said: Allah's Apostle, here is he as I have weaned him and he eats food. He (the Holy Prophet) entrusted the child to one of the Muslims and then pronounced punishment. And she was put in a ditch up to her chest and he commanded people and they stoned her. Khalid b Walid came forward with a stone which he flung at her head and there spurted blood on the face of Khalid and so he abused her. Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) heard his (Khalid's) curse that he had huried upon her. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Khalid, be gentle. By Him in Whose Hand is my life, she has made such a repentance that even if a wrongful tax-collector were to repent, he would have been forgiven. Then giving command regarding her, he prayed over her and she was buried.

The example of Jesus on forgivness (John 8:1-11)

But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court, they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act. "Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?" They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground. But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court. Straightening up, Jesus said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?" She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more."

Christianity never had a “kill anyone who doesn’t convert” mentality.

Murderers will use any excuse, including Christianity, if it suits their needs.

You prejudiced infidel western devil!

Can you not see that Islam is the Religion of Peace? Why is it that you infidels always seem to focus on the mere 60% or so of our Holy Q'uran (note PC sp), and other sacred writings that call for various interesting combinations of your death, enslavement, taxation, and/or sexual degradation?

Islam, was brought to Earth by Muhammed (May Peace Be Upon Him) who is Allah's Messenger, so that you might submit to Allah The All Wise's Holy Will. If you do not submit, I humbly suggest, O infidel, that you send your number 3, or ugliest wife, out to start your car.

That’s why I made a point to state that Jesus did not teach that, but that politicians throughout history used and abused Christianity for power with the “kill anyone who doesn’t convert” rules.

It is even worse than that. Islam has no central authoritative figure such as a pope. There are clerics and scholars and they could never agree among themselves who has more binding authority. The Sunni vs. Shi'ite split is just one proof of that. So if one issues a fatwa, no big deal.
