Former NYT Exec. Editor Howell Raines Twilight Zone Op-Ed (FOX "biased," MSNBC not so much...?)
The New Editor ^ | 03/12/10 | Tom Elia

Former executive editor of the New York Times Howell Raines, in a Washington Post piece criticizing the objectivity of Fox News, apparently draws some of his arguments straight out of the Twilight Zone.

Raines writes: (emphasis added)

****************

"One question has tugged at my professional conscience throughout the year-long congressional debate over health-care reform, and it has nothing to do with the public option, portability or medical malpractice. It is this: Why haven't America's old-school news organizations blown the whistle on Roger Ailes, chief of Fox News, for using the network to conduct a propaganda campaign against the Obama administration -- a campaign without precedent in our modern political history?

"Through clever use of the Fox News Channel and its cadre of raucous commentators, Ailes has overturned standards of fairness and objectivity that have guided American print and broadcast journalists since World War II.

[...]

"Why can't American journalists steeped in the traditional values of their profession be loud and candid about the fact that Murdoch does not belong to our team?

[...]

"For the first time since the yellow journalism of a century ago, the United States has a major news organization devoted to the promotion of one political party."

********************

Incredible. One thing Raines gets right, however: Fox News "does not belong to [Raines'] team."

And Saudi Prince al-Waleed bin Talal owns 5 1/2% of their stock.

The Saudis should have been the first enemy taken down in the War On Terror.

Kinda like how the New York Times has been devoted to the promotion of the Democratic Party for decades?

Why can't American journalists steeped in the traditional values of their profession be loud and candid about the fact that Murdoch does not belong to our team?”

I agree. Fox does not belong to the 0bama propaganda, disinformation and dirty tricks team, like the New York Times, Newsweek, Time, ABC, CBS NBC, MSNBC and CNN do.

So what?
Al-Waleed has owned stock in Apple for over a decade, and that never stopped Apple from having their best decade ever. Al-Waleed will have little to do with how Fox is run from day to day either.

chief of Fox News, for using the network to conduct a propaganda campaign against the Obama administration — a campaign without precedent in our modern political history?

Like the nicious, partisan, eight year campagn the New York Times, in part under Raines, conducted agianst the Bush adminstration?

Yes, I remember when FoxNews went ahead with that report on Obama's National Guard Service using obviously forged documents.
