Considering some of the pseudo-science I’ve seen on that channel recently, I’ll watch - but with great skepticism.

If anyone wants to learn anything about the Lord Jesus Christ, ANYTHING! the History channel is the last place they should look. I am so fed up with their anti Christian programs that when anything about the Lord or the Bible comes on I change the channel. They put on a couple of PHD. secular college professor Darwinists to talk about God. LOL it is total stupidity.

The problem with the Shroud of Turin is John 20:6-7

6Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus’ head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen.

I would like it to be the burial cloth of Christ, but there were multiple cloths. This just is too big to be the one that was around Jesus’ head, and the alleged image on the shroud shows the entire body.

That just would not be the case if this was legitimate.

I have no doubt this was an early shroud, but it is not Christ because Scripture makes it very clear that Jesus was not just wrapped in one shroud for his entire body.

Just listing for people who might be interested. Certainly not coercing anyone to watch - wouldn't want to strain the gray matter.

When a person was arranged for the burial process, the person was alid upon a very long cloth which was twice the height of the person, then the cloth was folded over the front of the person. When Jesus's boidy was removed from the cross, it is likely that He was laid upon such a span of cloth, BEFORE having his body cleansed, wrapped, and anointed with scents to cover the smell of death. The scenting oils were used because somoen would return periodically to the dessicated body for anointing and 'tending', until just the bones were left and these were then often placed in an ossuary(sp?).

BTW, in the Greek, the scene confers a sense of the wrappings were still int he shape of a man, so it is believed Jesus elft the wrappings without unwrapping them, and the head wrapping was found separate fromt he body wrappings. The cloth onto which He would have been placed to transport Him fromt Golgotha would be the Shroud of Turin.

I love that image. Anyone who thinks Jesus was constantly dour and humorless doesn’t know the Man, whose first public act in ministry was to go to a party.

Well, I've been studying and researching on the Shroud for over 50 years = and in correspondence with scientists who have examined it, and read m most of their books and kept tract of documentaries.

I'm not afraid of watching a film because some of the stuff and postures are outright hostile and deliberately scewed.

Jesus promised us : “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

Even the Spirit of truth; ...for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”

He gives us the gift of discernment. Whether we trust Him and whether we use it, is up to us.

I'm not afraid of being hood winked or contaminated by watching shows - I do research them first. But I do not shut off my mind and opportunity to learn.

ONe of the foremost Shroud experts, one the scientists on the first team to examine The Shroud, Barrie Schwortz, has the most thorough web site on it. (I promise you won't be struck by lightening if you look at it ;o)...)

BTW, the long piece of linen that the body was laid on and then brought up over the body was consistent for the time - and we should remember that this was simply a hurried solution to get his body into the borrowed tomb before the encroaching Sabbath, which forbade the touching of a dead body. He was not wrapped tightly at the time - the rest of the burial ritual was to be resumed at the end of the Sabbath, 3 days later. This is not the cloth that was over the face - altho’ both clothes have been found to match in blood pattern and type.

You hit the nail squarely on the head. The History channel has some good programs - but every time I have watched something supposedly related to Christianity/The Bible, they take a clear path to try to essentially disprove the Bible.

Yes - a good interpretation from the Man in The Shroud.

Iconic paintings that were obviously taken from the image on the Shroud go back hundreds and hundreds of years.
Used in churches before the invention of the camera, they have, discernibly, one origin. And thus we have our common depiction of what Jesus looked like.

You might find this find interesting.

There were two pieces of cloth. used in h burial. One over the face. The other over the entire body. IAC. the the image is extraordinary. Not only how it was done is mysterious but why anyone would bother the create such a ghostly image. It has the quality of a photo negative and its wasn’t until after the invention of photography and someone took a picture and noted that photo negative was a positive that the image became a sensation.

To make up for their bad biblical programs I truly love the WW11 history shows and especially the Fighter Pilot series.

I hope you were able to watch the History Ch. special!

I found it quite positive and inspiring and will be buying the DVD for my “library of all things Shroud” - I am also a portrait artist, so am very excited to get my paint pots out!

For those with such closed minds and or who already “know” it all and so vowed not to watch it - they missed a good documentary...they might even have learned something ;o)
