Tea Party Rallies Remain a Cauldron for Conspiracy Theories (Fox News barf)
Fox News ^ | April 11, 2010 | Cristina Corbin

PETOSKEY, Mich. -- The Tea Party Express has toured state after state trying to kick up a debate about constitutional rights and cast doubt on the legality of the recently passed health care overhaul, all with an eye toward the 2010 elections.

But while organizers have held the tour as a way to stay front-and-center as a political force, the rallies have also attracted the kinds of mistruths, exaggerations and conspiracy theories that make Tea Party leaders cringe. Though the movement is still trying to shore up its credentials as a grassroots power that's here to stay, the so-called "fringe" and its accompanying antics continue to give critics fodder.

"Obama, to me, is a socialist. He's a Muslim and all he wants to do is bankrupt us and run us into the ground," Ken Schwalbach of Escanaba, Mich., said at a rally on Friday.

Though Obama is a Christian -- and his Christian faith was a focal point of debate during the campaign-era controversy over his former pastor Jeremiah Wright -- the allegations that the president is a secret Muslim persist years later.

The charge of socialism has been a common theme at Tea Party gatherings -- but some activists have gone beyond merely portraying Obama as a European-style, big-government liberal.

Some suggest Obama wants to keep Americans unemployed so that they become dependent on government-run programs. Lenin and Stalin have become catchwords to describe Obama in the speeches denouncing his policies.

Going further, swastikas, as well as pictures of Obama's face next to Adolf Hitler's, have appeared on signs at dozens of rallies blasting the president and the Democrat-controlled Congress.

Other Tea Party members continue to question the president's citizenship -- a sign reading "Show Us Your Birth Certificate" popped up at a recent rally in Traverse City, Mich.

Either FOX New is trying hard to be "Fair and Balanced" or someone hijacked the web site.

At any rate, the Tea Party Needs to stay focused. And it will.

Christina sounds about as stupid as Glenn Beck lately. She should shut her ignorant piehole.

Care to parse, correct, and/or translate that post into Standard English so we can understand you?

Though Obama is a Christian...

I don't believe this for a second. Now rather he's a muslim or not I can't say...if he isn't then he's an apostate, but there are many of those. Given his marxism I'd guess he's really an atheist.

The Tea Party people are getting out front ..... they need to explain to the Fox newshounds, patiently and in non-inflammatory language, that Obama is a real-deal totalitarian, and that that fact will have real consequences for American voters if he succeeds in passing his agenda through the lame-duck 'Rat Congress.

I watch a lot of Fox News during the day and at night. I’ve never heard of Christina Corbin! Google Images indicates that no one has any pics of someone with that name connected to Fox News.

That being said, the text of the article appear to be something that might be stated on MSNBC.

Mistruth, exaggerations, and conspiracy theories? He must mean...
- "Tea Partiers are racists!"
- "Tea Partiers are violent!"
- "Tea Partiers don't represent the regular guy."
- "Tea Partiers are wasting everybody's time."
- "Tea Partiers are a Republican Astroturf group."
- "Tea Partiers are all crazy Birthers."
- "Tea Partiers march in lockstep and tolerate no dissent."

My mistake on previous posting. I searched on CHRISTINA instead of CRISTINA (what a squirrely spelling!).

Did find a pic or two, but don’t ever recall seeing her.

“Going further, swastikas, as well as pictures of Obama’s face next to Adolf Hitler’s, have appeared on signs at dozens of rallies blasting the president and the Democrat-controlled Congress.”

That is quite a mouthfull. “dozens of rallies”. I say that it is now time to call out this reporterette and say put up or apologize....her credibility as well as that of Fox News is on the line. If she can show in pictures at least two dozen signs that have the face of Obama next to the face of Adolf Hitler, and the dates and places these occurred, then she and Fox will have some credibility on this one article. Otherwise this is just more of the “made up, fictionalized” reporting that sorrily passes as journalism today, and quite frankly we have had it up to here with inaccurate reporting.

“Obama is not a Christain. He is a Muslim.”

I’m aware of the ‘natural born’ requirement, but is there any law or anything in the constitution that prohibits a person from the office of POTUS on account of being muslim, christian, or atheist? I ask because his religion seems to be such a central issue to his eligibility to hold office.

Yesterday’s Fox article on the Tea Parties was even worse - saying the “leaders” of the Tea Parties are embarrassed by such statements (”they cringe”) as “Obama is a Muslim” and Obama is a Socialist”.

Fox is going the way of the MSM down the tubes.
