Residents, business owners in state denied financial flooding help; Rell plans to appeal

Since last month's floods, residents and business owners in communities across southeastern Connecticut whose properties were damaged have heard repeated assurances that the federal government would cover their noninsured losses.

Both the state and New London County easily exceeded the monetary threshold needed to qualify for disaster assistance, and last week President Barack Obama signed a disaster declaration that allowed aid to begin flowing to the state and municipalities to cover their costs.

But on Tuesday afternoon, Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced that Obama had denied the state's request for individual aid.

I used to live in CT and love the state and its people.

But Connecticut residents are finally learning the bad news about Obama...he hates white people.

"whose properties were damaged have heard repeated assurances that the federal government would cover their noninsured losses"

Yet another example of why the economy is collapsing.

There should be no expectation that Uncle Sugar will bail you out for your individual losses in a flood. There should be no “Too Close To The River To Fail”... That is what insurance is for.

The Chicago definition of an “Honest Politician” is one who once bought, stays bought. By that standard, Zero is not a very honest politician...

the federal government GAVE over a half million dollars for every man, woman and child after Kartina, but won’t LEND a few grand to people from CT?

I suppose if you look at the demographics of the people on the receiving end (and the controlling end now that I think of it), that might answer a few questions.

and if you look at the fact that NOLA voted against the sitting prez, whilst CT voted FOR the sitting prez, we can get a picture of the mind of said sitting prez from one party versus the other.

frankly, although my heart goes out to those affeected by teh floods, many are personal friends, they mostly DID put the man in the white house, so you reap what you sow, eh?

Here’s the thing. This IS a racist act. Period. Obama didn’t suddenly become frugal, folks.

I lived within ten feet of a designated river for more than 20 years. It wasn’t just a flood plain, it was a flood plain SQUARED. The river ran through my property like a question mark shape. My neighbors, the same winding river. We referred to each other as River Rats, looking out for one another during the multiple annual floods.

NOT ONE OF US CARRIED FLOOD INSURANCE.

Why? We knew that moderate floods would do little damage, save for landscaping, etc. We also knew that big floods would render a emergency designation from a current White House, offering us grants, instead of loans. We were cautioned not to purchase flood insurance because DC would bail us out.

These largely rural, WHITE, areas were nothing special in those days. We were just good ol’ folks on the wrong side of things. None of this was in the inner city.

Obama’s team has run the demographics of these areas, no doubt. And they won’t see a dime, despite being told by TPTB to go without flood insurance.

You know, if he really wanted to help the poor in America, even poor Black people, there is so much he could have done.

He could have helped people get off welfare by getting jobs or even by training and education. He could have even started a program to help train people as to how to start and run their own small companies.

But he has done nothing to actually help.

Instead, he has simply used his office for political gain. He has squandered freebies on his homeys and p!ssed away a bloody fortune that could have pulled a massive number of the poor into the productive economy (a trillion $'s is a huge leg up).

He is more interested in destroying the country for the folks he hates (Whitey) than he in improving the world for the poor.

Obama is pure evil!!! Evil of a sort that the world has not seen for a long time (and we probably haven't even seen him in full as yet).

If you expect me to feel bad that people who were gaming the system wound up getting screwed, you will be disappointed.

If a house is built in a flood plain, he owner should either buy insurance (which is heavily subsidized), or accept his losses. This business of counting on the government to bail the owner out is just wrong. It causes people to build in areas that should never be built upon, because the resulting losses are all but inevitable.

Although I agree with you I must defend the homeowners in Conn. Many of the homes hit in Conn weren’t even close to the flood zone.

Every once in awhile, Mother Nature pulls a fast one and manages to hit areas that should be safe. (That’s why my property is on top of a very high hill! lol!)

I do not expect any such thing.

What I am trying to explain to everyone is exactly your point...it is a GAME. Ask anyone you know who lives near a body of water if they carry flood insurance. They will say NO and I just told you why.

But Obama is a different cat. He’s going to deny help to “regular” people (i.e. middle class white people) and their businesses (who, remember, have been already told that only assholes carry flood insurance) in order to give “help” to millionaires like Beyonce.

Who need no help and whom are already IN A FLOOD PLAIN.

I live near a river, and I carry flood insurance. Even though my mortgage is paid off, I still carry the insurance.

If Uncle Sugar is starting to get unreliable, perhaps everybody who lives in a flood zone should start carrying insurance.

The granting of gifts by the government will always be a political decision. One group may have been showered with money in the past, but that does not mean it should always be so.

This might be of interest to you: David Crockett, Charity, and Congress
