And what was your point? That it's the guy's fault?

Just watched the video and its awful. The guy was not running away, it appears he was moving out of their way. The officer should be behind bars for serious bodily harm. That is not the way someone arrest a suspect.

You’re right on all counts. But the department will cover for him and he’ll not have to pay for his crimes.

Even when the victim wins the civil suit, the thug will not pay. The taxpayers will pay.

a man running from the Police (yes, it is obvious they are cops and did ID themselves as witnesses say)who had his hands in his pocket and removed them a SPLIT SECOND before he was tackled is somehow a victim of Police Brutality.

Maybe you saw a different video than I did but the one I saw show a man who clearly does not have his hands in his pockets and who is no longer running. A man, by the way, who had committed no crime and is now severely disabled.

Hey Cop Bashers, how about giving Cops the benefit of the doubt for a change instead of pre judging them?

How about they start earning respect? How about they stop using excessive force? How about they stop using their authority to hurt those they are supposed to serve and protect?

How about giving the public the benefit of the doubt for a change instead of pre-judging them and treating them like criminals? I know I'm wasting my time. Just wanted to have my say.

My point is that all too often I find these knee-jerk cop bashing threads on FR and its sickening....

In THIS case, we read the Police did identify themselves and attempted to stop someone IDENTIFIED by a witness in a crime. The suspect then runs. As we see in the video he has his hands in his pocket. A cops FIRST AND PRIMARY concern is his and his partners safety. The suspect (which he was) damn well knows these are cops or at least should have. The cops do not know who this guy is or what else he may have done.

In the video, the suspect is still running from the cops when, a SPLIT SECOND before he is tackled, he removes his hands from his pocket..too late! That he hit his head is a tragedy. Is it the cops fault? NO!!! The cop was doing his job, and tactically correct. Is it the suspects fault? Only in the sense that he caused these tragic series of events by RUNNING FROM THE POLICE WITH HIS HANDS IN HIS POCKET!!!

Please FReepers, learn about Police tactics and procedures before bashing every damn thing they do!!

If in your eyes the Police have not earned respect from the public yet, and the use of excessive force is seen as the norm not the exception, then they will never earn your respect..but thanks for that clearly intelligent well thought out response : /

I guess it depends on your definition of “expert” but I was a commissioned officer in the Military Police corps, commanded a military police company, and served as a provost marshal. Does that make me an expert? I don’t know, but I think this cop was out of control and if he’d been working for me, he wouldn’t be working for me any longer.

Thank you for your service. Big difference between being a cop in the Military and patrolling the streets of any City.

All relative...people read and see the same thing but arrive at different conclusions...most without any knowledge on the subject.

"Big difference between being a cop in the Military and patrolling the streets of any City."

Does Seoul, Korea count? Maybe you've patrolled bigger cities. Did any number of joint patrols with the KNP. This tactic and level of demonstrative heavy handedness is something I'd expect to see from their riot police.

Oh, did I mention that for the past 10 years or so, I've been working as an insurance defense investigator and have done a number of investigations for municipalities being sued for police brutality? But then again....you're the expert.
