Visitors to Zion National Park in Utah will want to adjust their arrival and departure times to avoid the closure of Utah Highway 9 this summer from the park’s east entrance to its junction with the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive.
The reconstruction of a 9½-mile section will close the road and tunnel through the Checkerboard Mesa and some other areas from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Controlled traffic will be allowed before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays, the park said

The Maynard Dixon Living History Museum depends on travelers from throughout the west in order to meet their budget. With this loss of potential revenue small business in the area will certainly fail.
Bryce Canyon is one of the most DIFFERENT, beautiful places on earth!!
Glad I saw Bryce and Zion National Parks back in 1971. No waiting.
Yes, Bryce is incredibly beautiful. Full of red/orange water and wind eroded sandstone formations. You can walk among them. Take lots of photos.

The powers that be in Zion National Park are determined to use these tactics to keep all tourism confined to their side of the park and cause business on the east side to fail.
In questioning the decision, representatives of the park always blame someone else.
For the last two days we have had three visits to our business here in Long Valley.
The basis for this road work is based upon the stupid stimulus package in which the park received 6 million to fix roads that do not need fixing.

The main part of Zion is in my view over rated.
For an outstanding vacation, Go to north Zion and I think Rendevou Peak out of St George. You drive to the summit at 11,000 feet. From there it is all down hill through the geological wonderland of Bryce Canyon, Grand Staircase Escalante, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, Arches, Monument Valley, and finally Grand Canyon.
That trip through the rocks is the grand staircase.

The point of this post unfortunately has to do with government against the little guy. They think they can just close the road coming out of the east side of Zion without consulting an entire county. Please help us little guys fight these Obama idiots.

Just got back from those places sat. We luckily missed the construction...though some tourists in the Arches told us we were going to have road closures...then the people in Bryce told us we’d miss it. Beautiful trip, beautiful weather.

We really enjoyed the lower, middle and upper pools hike. Also...into the narrows (though the water was too high to go any further.) Oh..and the weeping rock...the wild flowers were blooming.
One has to wonder what the voter registration is for the “other” side of the park.

Wow. The feds are using stimulus money to ‘accidentally’ shut down the private tourist stops near the park? That’s outrageous! Is there anything that can be done?
Who closing the road Utah?
We are doing everything we can to bring this to national attention. I have had several newspapers here interviewing us in the last two days. My approach will be to make it known that stimulus money is a farce and used only to do phony make work projects.
Aside from the fact that today there has not been any visitors here.

What you are experiencing is all too common.
Not that this one affected any businesses, but Trail Ridge Road (Rocky Mtn National Park) was closed for ‘maintainance’ over Memorial Day. The most scenic road in the park..........on one of the busiest days.
Just more of Big Governement flipping us the bird.
How anchored down are the ROAD CLOSED signs?
