Sorry Barack, I'm watching World Cup, says Biden

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – An unabashed U.S. Vice President Joe Biden told President Barack Obama on Friday he was sorry for leaving him behind to manage the oil spill but was thrilled to be watching the World Cup.

"I am honored to be (here) representing the United States. The president is angry," Biden told a group of dignitaries at the U.S. consulate in Sandton, near Johannesburg.

Biden, who arrived in South Africa with several family members about a day ahead of the kick-off to the sports spectacle, told the group not to take the U.S. side lightly.

The United States play England in their opening Group C match on Saturday and the Irish-American Biden expects to be in attendance cheering on coach Bob Bradley's side.

"In the spirit of a genuine Irishman, we are going to beat England," Biden said.

I swear, Biden is one funny VP. He knows what his job is, and how much clout he has, so he looks to be enjoying his gig. Cheney on the other hand, was all business. I guess it further shows the difference between the adults and the children.

Must be nice to just jump in a government plane, with Secret Service for protection and acting as a concierge for your travel plans, and go where you want. That is what Obama and Biden seem to think their job is. No work, just play at taxpayer expense.

Grrrr. He’s angry. Grrrr.

That is leadership.

I recall the days of Pearl Harbor when FDR came out and said. “I am angry. Who’s ass do I need to kick?”

Then years later, Reagan said to Gorby, “Grrrr. I am angry about this Cold War. Who’s ass do I need to kick”.

Nine years ago, President Bush stood on that mound of rubble with his bullhorn and said, “Man, these terrorists make me so darn angry. Who’s ass do I need to kick”

Moments in great leadership.

Hell, if I wasn’t being allowed to do anything, I’d go do something else too. Crazy Joe’s got it easy. Free home, big paycheck, secret security detail, huge staff, and no responsibility.

starting off on a sad note for Nelson and family..

Mandela relative killed after World Cup concert

Donna Bryson, Associated Press

JOHANNESBURG – It should have been a moment of triumph — Nelson Mandela, basking in the cheers as Africa's first World Cup opened.

Instead, South Africa's beloved anti-apartheid icon stayed at home with his family Friday in northern Johannesburg during the opening ceremony and game, mourning his 13-year-old great-granddaughter Zenani, who died in a car crash on the way home from a tournament-eve concert in Soweto.

“He knows what his job is...”

A couple of months ago he said it was fun being VP since as VP he doesn’t do anything.

Maybe somebody has the exact quote and can share.

Thank you.

Smiling takes 6.

In many countries, soccer is football. The name “soccer” is unheard of, and one will be looked upon as if one is speaking a Chinese dialect if one uses the word “soccer.” Folks won’t know what you are talking about.

U.S. football is referred to as “American football” to distinguish it from “real” football.

I didn’t invent this so don’t take offense.

Well to be fair Cheny was brought in for being an experienced statesmen and a veteran of key positions in past administrations. He helped run the first gulf war and W wanted to finish the job.

Biden was brought in specifically not to be a political threat, or potential successor, to Obama.

Both seem to serve their intended purposes.

"In the spirit of a genuine Irishman, we are going to beat England," Biden said.

Err ... last time I checked, a "genuine" Irishman was one from Ireland.
