Political operatives on Journolist worked to shape news coverage (Gotcha!)
The Daily Caller ^ | July 29 2010 | Jonathan Strong

. . . Present among the bloggers, reporters and editors were a number of professional political operatives, including top White House economic advisors, key Obama political appointees, and Democratic campaign veterans . . .

Two of the administration’s chief economic advisors, Jared Bernstein, the vice president’s top economist, and Jason Furman, deputy director of the National Economic Council, were members of Journolist until they began working officially for Obama.

Ilan Goldenberg, now an advisor on Middle East policy at the Pentagon, was a member until he joined the administration. Moira Whelan left Journolist to work at the Department of Homeland Security. Anne-Marie Slaughter left to work at the State Department. Former Journolist member Ben Brandzel is now a top staffer at Organizing for America, the political arm of the Obama White House.

Josh Orton, a former spokesman for Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NM), became Obama’s deputy director of new media during the 2008 presidential campaign. After the election, he joined Journolist . . .

And not just worked to shape the news, but also to obtain jobs in the new administration. Members of Journolist now working for the administration should be forced to resign.

About the founder

Ezra Klein, who started Journolist:

Good ol' Ezra Klein wrote on Twitter the following about much beloved Tim Russert:

f*** tim russert. f*** him with a spiky acid-tipped dick.

A columnist for Newsweek !!!

A blogger for the Washington Post !!!

What a great guy, Journolist Founder !!!

----------------------

----------------------------------- JournoList Members:

(Wiki) Members of JournoList included, among others: Ezra Klein, Jeffrey Toobin, Eric Alterman, Paul Krugman, Joe Klein (no relation to Ezra Klein), Matthew Yglesias, and Jonathan Chait.

--------------

Main article: JournoList

In February 2007 Klein created a Google Groups forum called "JournoList" for discussing politics and the news media. The forum's membership was controlled by Klein and limited to "several hundred left-leaning bloggers, political reporters, magazine writers, policy wonks and academics."[16]

Posts within JournoList were intended only be made and read by its members.[17] Klein defended the forum saying that it "[ensures] that folks feel safe giving off-the-cuff analysis and instant reactions". JournoList member, and

Time magazine columnist, Joe Klein added that the off-the-record nature of the forum was necessary because “candor is essential and can only be guaranteed by keeping these conversations private”.[16]

Ezra Klein (born May 9, 1984) is an American blogger for the Washington Post and a columnist for Newsweek. He was formerly an associate editor for The American Prospect political magazine and an American liberal[1] political blogger at the same publication.[2]

I really hope that people keep digging around on this stuff. Thinking back to Allen’s 2006 senatorial campaign in VA, I wonder how much these people plotted to drive the “macaca” frenzy.

Excerpts from a bigjournalism article:

JournoList 2: the TownHouse Listserv?

But let’s forget about the JournoList for a moment and turn our eyes to another listserv out there in Google. I’m referring to Matt Stoller’s private, invitation-only TownHouse listserv. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Stoller, he’s a progressive blogger-turned-senior policy advisor for Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL). Now we all know what we can do besides teach with a history degree, but I digress.

An article on Salon reports: “Townhouse began after the disastrous 2004 election, when young Democratic activists began meeting on Sundays for beers at Townhouse Tavern, a subterranean watering hole in Washington’s Dupont Circle neighborhood…

The Washington Post “journalist” gang tried the same thing with the election for governor in Virginia last year. They focused on an issue they could exploit and decided the way to win the election for their candidate, a real dimwit of a Dem, was to highlight some college thesis written 30 years ago by the Rep, Bob McDonnell in which he said the remarkably right-wing ding thing that women should stay at home and take care of the family. The WPost had nine articles on it the day of the opening salvo against McDonnell followed by incessant coverage day after day; for once, their scheming had absolutely no impact as McDonnell won in a landslide.

We must fill the comments sections of every article written by known Journolist pigs exposing them and demanding their resignation until we drum every last one of these propagandists out of journalism.

Also write letters to the editors of the papers they write for, informing them that they have destroyed their paper’s credibility by continuing to publish a Journolist pig.

Absolutely! If harsh consequences do not follow this..Look for more destructive, society-killing behavior.

We would have better luck contacting the advertisers of the newspapers and blogs these journalists write for.

Mr. McGuire: I want to say one word to you. Just one word.
Benjamin: Yes, sir.
Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?
Benjamin: Yes, I am.
Mr. McGuire: Journalism.
Benjamin: Just how do you mean that, sir?
Mr. McGuire: I mean, son, that you can be a totally partisan journalist and catch the eyes and ears of the administration and you can land a cushy job that will set up the rest of your life! Unless, of course, someone spills the beans.

I’m not sure why this whole thing is newsworthy; who didn’t know this was being done? Maybe the news story should be that many Americans were stupid enough to listen to the Bolshevik media when deciding who to vote for.

I’m not sure why this whole thing is newsworthy . . .

Oh...OK...old news huh? Everyone knew this already. That is exactly what the New York Times said when Venona and the Soviet archives were made public. Everyone knew what the left had denied for 40 years was true. Not newsworthy. Time to "move on". I bet Klein and the others wish everyone would "move on" . I bet they wish everyone would find this not newsworthy.

The reason it’s NEWSWORTHY is because it proves, in black and white, and in their own words, what we have long suspected to be true. Of course Freepers were savvy enough to know it was going on, but the rank and file, less politically informed are clueless about the bias. Here is proof that it exists.

It is not newsworthy because the same journalists who created, controlled and disseminated the news are now claiming this is not newsworthy.

It is not newsworthy because conservatives, even those attacked by these same journalists, are writing half apologetic screeds lamenting that the medias once untarnished reputation has been bruised.

It is not newsworthy because lesser known conservatives, those who do not buy their ink by the barrel, continue to claim “we always knew this was happening” instead of realizing what a gift has been dropped into our laps.

Maybe I’m overreaching, but seems to me that lying, manipulation of.., and distorting the news by these “Journalists” for specific agenda is infringing upon the first amendment rights of the vast majority of the public dependant upon the professionalism of journalists to form their opinions, and vote, or act accordingly not only themselves, but for the integrity of their community, their State, their Country.

Here we have a group of “Journalists” purposely altering news presentation to effect an outcome. An individual that does such can claim First Amendment Rights by presenting under the category of opinion is my opinion, but a group such as this purposely coordinating amongst themselves to deceive the public for their personal agenda is another matter.

I’d think something could be done to stop such treachery without impeding their First Amendment Rights. These people are flippin’ the Bird to America.
