Kerry: Yacht story 'our fault' By: Andy Barr July 30, 2010 07:50 AM EDT

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) said Thursday that he and his office mishandled the politics surrounding tax questions on his new $7 million yacht.

“I don’t think I dealt with it fast enough, effectively enough. There’s nobody to blame but myself for that,” Kerry said Thursday in an interview with the Boston Globe.

Throughout the weeklong story, Kerry has insisted that he will pay whatever state taxes are owed – estimated to be $500,000 – on the yacht.

Kerry has so far not had to pay Massachusetts’ taxes on the boat because it is based in Rhode Island, saving Kerry from technically having to pay the Bay State’s sales, usage and excise taxes on the boat. But Kerry said the decision to have the boat stay in Rhode Island had nothing to do with tax issues. Aides have said work is being done on the recently purchased yacht in Rhode Island.

“I’d be crazy to think that I’m going to be doing that, and that was never our long-term intention here,” Kerry said of any speculation that he wanted to avoid taxes.

The funniest excuse I heard was on Hannity. The lib told him the reason it was in R.I. was that it had a hole in it that could only be fixed there.

I'm sure that if someone were to do some digging, they would find that the Kerry/Heinz family has managed to avoid paying millions of dollars in taxes that us little people would never get away with avoiding.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. What lies beneath the surface?

Kerry and the Dems still think that the problem with Kerry is about message and response to criticisms, rather than the fact that the criticisms are invariably accurate and devastating character flaws.

“I should have paid more attention and done it faster or whatever,” he said. “I just didn’t think we had to.”

The tax code is just too complicated for his pretty little head to grasp, don't you know.

Yawning, just another RAT trying to break a law that you MUST obey.

How long has he been hiding the thing in Rhode Island? If he just bought it yesterday, I will give him a pass.

“The Massachusetts senator pointed out that he is not ‘legally’required to pay the taxes, but recognizes that politically the taxes must be paid.”

The Massachusetts senator pointed out that he has been caught trying to avoid the taxes he expects others to pay, so his political advisers have told him to pay up and claim there never was a plan to avoid the taxes at all.

Bingo! Same with Obama etc- they always think the problem is their style, or their message, and nt the substance of what they are doing. They imply we are too stupid to see and understand.

Sometimes I think Kerry did this, and knew it would cause a stir, on purpose...just to avoid the question...what the Hades is this guy doing buying a $7 MILLION DOLLAR YACHT, when millions in America can't even afford to buy a bus ticket in this economy?

The focus has been on the taxes he skipped...but no one has questioned the purchase price of a new yacht by a Democrat, because the Dems are not rich...only the Republicans, right? But if it were a Republican who bought that expensive, luxurious, unnecessary, yacht...the media would be out there trying to sink it.

What kind of double talk is that? If the boats in MA he owes the taxes if in RI he doesn't. So if he's paying "whatever state taxes are owed" he's paying nothing.
Look, nobody begrudges anyone a chance to legally reduce their taxes, it's just that "progressives" like Kerry never met a tax they didn't want to hike. Therefore he should be paying above and beyond what he owes. I guess it's like Leona Helmsley said, "taxes are for the little people."

And an "a-hole" owns it too.

I don't mind that he bought a 7 million dollar yacht (that needed extensive repairs). But what pisses me off is that he is a United States Senator from Massachusetts and there are probably a dozen yacht companies in his home state that are dying for work, and he buys a foreign built yacht and then parks it in a neighboring state to have the "repairs" done.

If I lived in Massachusetts I would be furious.

But the people of Massachsetts are so stupid and ignorant and blinded by their socialist ideals that they will continue to support this tax cheating elitist and blame the republicans for all their ills. My guess is that the unemployed yacht builders in that state will vote for him next election and blame the Rich Republicans for their unemployment status.

The world is truly upside down.

This POS made his money the old fashioned way, he married it. It's like he said during the campaign when asked why he has so many mansions and SUVs while lecturing us about our carbon footprint. "Oh they're not mine.". Well DUH Gomer, they belong to your WIFE!!!!
Kerry is a typical limousine liberal.
