Our One-Term President
The American Spectator ^ | 8/17/2010 | Tom Bethell

Posted on 08/17/2010 3:25:44 AM PDT by markomalley

It's a good bet right now that Barack Obama will be a one-term president. The enthusiasm that once shielded this hyphenated American has dissipated. His supporters, although still numerous, have discovered that he lacks Bill Clinton's centrist instincts, and even his charm. The anti-Bush mania that swept the country from 2006-09 finally burned itself out.

It's always possible that the Republicans will nominate a dud. That has happened so often that it should even be considered likely. Not since 1980 has there been an outstanding GOP candidate. But at this stage it's too difficult to predict the 2012 nominee, so I'll drop that subject.

Most important from Obama's point of view is the economy. It is still in poor shape and is likely to stay that way. The unemployment picture has not brightened. In California it is 12.6 percent, while in Michigan it is 14.9 percent. In Europe, meanwhile, the economic picture ranges from uncertain to grave and I'll have more to say on that.

The liberals as usual understood nothing.…

Nope. Liberals understand and care about only one thing: POWER.

They know very well what they are doing and it's working just fine. They just want to hold our hand long enough to put on the cuffs. We may have slowed them down, but so far they have found a way to do what they want. Between amnesty, a bogus census, electronic voting, our aging demographics, a growing dependent class, a small arms treaty, a rights of the child treaty, LOST, etc. they might just find a way to take us down the rest of the way. For us to undo what they have done against a filibuster and a veto would take a super-majority that just cannot happen against those forces.

They don't care if the economics don't work.

Everyone said BJ Clinton would be a one termer too.

I'll believe it when I see them apply super glue remover to Michelle's fat hands as they pry her from the door frame.

I usually scoff at those who claim to be able to predict the future but it is hard to argue with this article.

Obama, and the Progressive Fascists Democrats who surround him, are completely clueless on how to make an economy work. Given that fact it is very hard to imagine a scenario where, despite the slavish, obsequious treatment he gets from the faux Journolists in the US Media, where he puts together a win in 2012.

---------------------------

Right. But I'll modify it to this: Liberals understand and care about two things: themselves and power.

We're 'led' by a narcissistic adolescent whose mission in life seems to be punishing a country for some long-forgotten slight he endured. Nobody knows what it is, because he isn't just a liar, his life is lie. Every word is a lie. He might occasionally say something that is not a lie, but who could ever filter a kernel of truth from a thousand lies. He lies about every detail that slithers out of his mouth. The substance, data, interpretation and meaning of every detail. He lies about his birth, his associates, his appointees, his policies, his activities, his thoughts, his family, everything. It's as if he can't speak a word without turning it into a dozen lies. Does anybody truly believe he has been a citizen from birth. Does anybody truly believe that he rejects the venom of Wright, Ayers, Jones, and hundreds of others, including his own spouse? Does anybody truly believe that he loves this country and wants the best for its people?

The libs built Zer0 up as their messiah, and now he's looking like a one-term failure who will have a worse reputation than Jimmy Carter.

The 'working man' has been pushed into a corner. His savings are gone, his children's futures are being destroyed for no good reason.

Dems have had the keys to government since 2007, and Bush was a backseat driver. Spending originates in the House of Representatives. Zer0, Nancy, and Harry drove the car off a cliff in 2008, and now you expect to blame Bush and escape with no political harm with the help of your piss-stream media. Guess what, you bastards, the American voters are coming for you this time. Go ahead, keep blaming Bush, for soon one-thrid of you will be gone. You're futures in office are all used up.

Obama is simply a poster child for big government spending.

Liar; Obama.

Cheater; Feds.

Thief; Congress.

Con artist; Piss-Stream Media.

Throw 'em all out.

WAKE UP AMERICA

What is distressing are his comments about Britain where an idiot faux Conservative Cameron has agreed to raise tax rates from 40 to 50 percent. Bethell thinks this will be the end of the City of London and its world-wide pre-eminance. So Britain will be gradually Islamicized and its influence reduced in the world — thanks to the insanity of socialism and its hand-mainden, multiculturalism. It’s mass suicide on a national scale.

Everyone said BJ Clinton would be a one termer too.

Ross Perot and his 18% of the vote(taken mostly from the Republicans), say “HELLO!”.
Thanks to Perot, Clinton didn't need to get even close to 50%, let alone over 50% of the vote in order to win it. 0bozo on the other hand, will have to get over 50% of the vote in order to win. As at now, he is fast approaching 40% approval and still sinking. Heck, Bush never hit such low levels till well into his second term.

I was really hoping that Federal Marshals would frog-march Obama out of the White House way before the 2012 elections. Obama is the most corrupt and inept person who has ever been there.

Yeah ... and that was after years of Bush bashing by the liberal MSM. BO gets a pass time & again from his buddies in the media and his approval rating is going south anyway. Bottom line, in spite of the liberal media aiding & abetting easily the most incompetent president in U.S. history, the little people are beginning to see the light.

I agree. Without the journolists, and the rest of the communist media propping him up, this incompetent idiot's approval rating would be about 12 or 13%.

Which, not coincidentally, accounts for the 95% of blacks in the US who would approve of him even if he started killing puppies on live TV.

I guess you don't work anywhere near NYC. I have several white co-workers who could easily launch into a long monologue about how those puppies needed to die and The Messiah was just the right person to kill them and how he did it in just the right way at just the right time.

I think you are underestimating the LIMITLESS grovelling stupidity of the average white liberal.

Obama's core support is somewhere in the 35-40% range. It will never go lower than that.

A timely column and recollection. The best piece of analysis in this piece is about the timing of Reagan’s Tax Cuts and the perverse result being the delay in the recovery. 28 years ago this month (August 1982), the stock market turned into a raging Bull Market that would last 18 years, anticipating the powerful economic recovery that was coming in the spring. Even though the 1982 mid-term elections weren’t good for the GOP that year (as I recall), Reagan still had all of his mojo going for him.

As the author points out, the only failing of the Reagan Supply Side legacy was the failure to get/keep spending under control. I was recently infuriated with a Larry Kudlow interview of David Stockman in which Stockman was saying supply side tax cuts don’t work because of the harm to the deficit — when the obvious problem had been the failure to get spending under control... in the 1980’s and even more so ever since then.

All of this experience points to the need for fundamental and structural reforms along the lines of Paul Ryan’s Roadmap. I hope the GOP gets on board and finds a leader among its outstanding governors to carry the torch to the next Presidential election.
