Republicans Eye McCain’s Millions in Excess 2008 Funds (McCain-Palin funds may go to elect RINOs)
Roll Call ^ | 2010-09-01 | David M. Drucker

Sen. John McCain’s victory in the Aug. 24 Arizona Republican primary was fueled partly by transfers of $7.5 million from his 2008 presidential campaign compliance fund — an account GOP Congressional strategists are now eyeing as they look to finance a growing list of competitive midterm races.

McCain’s compliance fund reported $17.1 million in cash on hand as of June 30, with $4.65 million in transfers to the Senator’s re-election committee having been made during the second quarter of this year. Additional transfers were made before the August pre-primary fundraising reporting deadline. McCain also used the compliance account to make $63,900 in charitable donations to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Phoenix and about a dozen Phoenix-area churches.

Any presidential candidate who participates in the public financing program must submit to a post-election audit of his campaign operation by the Federal Election Commission. McCain’s compliance fund, officially known as the McCain-Palin Compliance Fund Inc., was assembled to cover the accounting and legal fees generated by that audit.

However, excess funds from compliance accounts are available to be transferred to other campaign committees or for charitable donations. Republicans looking for avenues to make up the expected Democratic fundraising advantage in this year’s fall campaign are hoping McCain will be as generous with his compliance account as President George W. Bush was with his.

One Republican consultant advising Congressional candidates said McCain “could, and should,” transfer the money to the National Republican Congressional Committee and National Republican Senatorial Committee. “Most of that money was raised from GOP donors who were expecting it to be used for the cause, not collecting dust — or interest,” the consultant added.

Most of the GOP primaries are over—doesn’t this money go for the general election?

Maybe Mrs. Palin could have a chat with her good friend McQueeg, whom she endorsed in his primary re-election bid, and suggest the best way for that money to be spent.

Seems to me that the account holding these funds should be a joint account, with Sarah as joint owner.

Good. Lets make McLame spend every last dime so that he is irrelevant next go round. This man is going to be a Rino cancer in the party if we can’t get some conservative blood in there to help DeMint.

McCain will only give if he gets.

He is looking to use the money to buy something for his own poer.

Perhaps the senate majority leader.

“Republicans looking for avenues to make up the expected Democratic fundraising advantage in this year’s fall campaign are hoping McCain will be as generous with his compliance account as President George W. Bush was with his.”

Basing my comment on the speculative concept that George Soros, and his machine, money, etc. was responsible for the sudden, head spinning rejuvenation of the McPain campaign in I believe it was early 2008, I’d believe the permission to transfer the remaining funds would be his decision to make.

Pray that McQueig doesn’t use it to finance his worthless daughter’s entry into politics. God save us from that young witch.

Yes indeed “RINOs” who have now earned their party’s nominations like Jesse Kelly, Todd Young, Adam Kinzinger, Joe Miller, Sharron Angle, Marco Rubio, Pat Toomey, etc. if the NRCC and NRSC get ahold of some of this money for the general election and possibly be able to expand their targeted races if they get the extra cash on hand...but that would require McCain not to be selfish and hold onto this for his own personal campaign. I’m surprised he had this much cash raised for that “compliance fund” since it could not be used on regular campaign expenditures since he took the matching funds.

You have a problem. Day after day, we see you posting ravage attacks on McCain even with the primary long over, even posting an article then an attack on him for supporting Barbara Boxer’s opponent every bit as vicious as though he was supporting Boxer herself.

I don’t like McCain either. I didn’t vote for him in the primary even though by the time the presidential campaign got to my state it had been long decided who the nominee would be and I could have voted for him as a showing of strength for our eventual candidate, but I could not bring myself to do it. That said, I did not allow my disapproval of his nomination consume and control my entire life. My preferred candidate did not win the primary for Senate in my own state this year - you do not see me posting articles attacking him on a daily basis.

You appear to have become so consumed with hate for another human being you cannot let it go. Your editorializing of headlines has also not been entirely accurate, as it is here. You have been consumed so much by your anger that you are starting to epitomize yourself the things you claim to dislike about McCain’s character.

Move on with life. That doesn’t mean change your impression of McCain...but don’t allow it to control everything you are doing. There are big battles to fight - quit dwelling on the lost battle of the past. There are positive things you could be doing with your passion and energy and that would not only be better for the country, but for you personally. You aren’t hurting McCain - you are only hurting yourself at this point.

Too bad they didn’t spend it trying to win.

This was from the compliance fund - it could not be used for regular campaign expenditures and he was capped in the amount he could spend since he took the matching funds. It's really shocking that this much was donated to a compliance fund - no way it was all needed for that purpose. After that campaign was over it could be transferred to other campaign accounts. Essentially, it appears McCain set himself up a slush fund to be used later since it could not, in fact, be used for the 2008 race unless compliance expenditures really went out of control (not exactly likely)...although I guess it could have been transferred to the 2012 race had he been elected so I don't want to get too conspiratorial...but still, it shows Mr. Campaign Finance Reform used a huge loophole to funnel himself many millions of dollars and didn't seem to mind it one bit. In any event...hopefully he'll give a good chunk of this up to the campaign committees for their general election fund as they are asking but I wouldn't hold my breath...
