THE DEBT COMMISSION

As you wake up this morning, there is a lot of talk about the leaked report of the Debt Commission. Keep in mind that this is not the final report, but a draft passed out by the co-chairs.
What you need to know is pretty straight forward.
Yes, the plan ends the deficit. It does so with lots and lots of spending cuts across the board. There are actually some good suggestions in the plan, but there is one inescapable fact the proposal has buried in it one trillion dollars in tax increases.
(Excerpt) Read more at redstate.com ...
Worts and all, spending cuts and government reduction are not something that fits into the DemonRat platform. Before kicking it to the curb in it’s entirety lets beat the libtards around the head and shoulders with it for the next two years.
What you need to know is that Andy Stern (Former head of the SEIU) is a member and many other members are problematic at best. One or two of the republicans are OK.
sometimes Warts and Worts beat spell checkers even at this hour.
It’s typical hyperbole and scare tactics...
Does no one remember the lesson from 1994-6? All they have to do is:
1) STOP with the $800 Billion “stimulus” plans...
2) Make the W Tax cuts permanent for ALL.
3) Increase the gas tax by 15 cents... to start getting more tax from people who don’t pay income taxes.
4) Reduce discretionary spending to 2008 levels, and put a hard cap on them going forward.... increases only at rate of inflation.
5) Repeal Obamacare... and, instead open up cross-state competition.
GO HOME... and, wait for the economy to catch up.
The plan contains $3 in spending cuts for every $1 in higher revenues. Not a bad formula (certainly closer to the Republican view of where we should head than the Democrat view).
But those inclined to optimism might recall that when Reagan signed onto the tax increases in 1982 TEFRA, a similar formula was completely ignored by Congress.
These tax hikes are a joke. MORE tax on gas? Come on! We already have enough of our gas taxes siphoned off to pay for things that have nothing to do with roads already!
This just illustrates why a national retail sales tax, something like the FairTax, is what is needed. Gas is becoming like cigarettes the way it is being taxed.
Until the voters remove the big spenders from Congress, this debt reduction report is useless.
Too many people (in and out of government) have become addicted to deficit spending. It will take a lot to wean those addicts.
Many 12 step programs are necessary.

The entitlement programs represent an unfunded liability of $60 trillion. Costs are going to continue to increase. By 2030 one in five residents of this country will be over 65 or double what it is now. In 1950 there were 16 workers for every retiree; today it is 3.3; and by 2030 it will be 2. Entitlement cost are going to increase regardless due to demography.
3) Increase the gas tax by 15 cents... to start getting more tax from people who dont pay income taxes.
That will hurt the economy and the individual. Most of our food, goods, and services are moved by motor vehicles. These additional costs will be passed on to the consumer. And individuals who commute to work will have less discretionary income, which will also affect business adversely. The more money you shift into the federal coffers, the less control the individual has over his life. And we know the federal government will just use the increased revenue to fund new programs.
“No, this illustrates why another tax is not needed. It’ll just be tacked on to everything else and give the government spenders the illusion that they can keep on their fiscally irresponsible ways and end up screwing everybody over even more than they have been.”
An ADDITIONAL tax is certainly not needed, but a DIFFERENT tax is definitely needed. The Fair Tax should be enacted, and part of the enabling legislation would have to say that it could not take effect until the constitution had been amended to prohibit the income tax. The income tax is a slave tax and must be terminated.
“Revenue is not the problem. Spending is the problem.”
Exactly. Entire federal departments should be abolished and the rest severely cut. A large percentage of federal workers should be terminated. All federal spending that cannot be supported by clear constitutional authority should be ended at once.
I agree completely. I just support the FairTax because it does solve the problem of people not paying anything.
A large percentage of federal workers should be terminated.
A large percentage of state, county, and city workers should also be terminated since the Fed subsidizes many of them.
As an American, concerned about my countries future...I’m willing to cinch my belt a bit....but COME ON! Does anyone notice that these Democrats who just a day ago were touting the wonderful achievments of their massive spending are today touting gloom and doom because of it??? And how do they propose to fix that problem? by raping our soldiers, the elderly and pretty much every person who works and pays into the system their whole lives...not to mention lets force people to work until they are dead...BE CAREFUL THAT YOU DON’T GET TO BE YOUNG ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY ENJOY RETIREMENT!
Well what about this....what about I’ll believe that they are serious about saving the country when they Put a stop to entitlements to ALL illegal aliens. How about we start to save the economy by first plugging that leak? How about we require all politicians to take a pay cut and then we put a stop to their life long pay and benefits? How about we get rid of obamacare? How about we put a stop to all foreign aid and use that money to help ourselves? How about we drop the friggin A-bomb on the middle east and bring an end to this expensive war? After they do that ...then i’ll listen to this garbage.
