Rev. Peterson Supports Rep. Rangel Ethics Conviction; Calls On Ethics Panel To Deliver Tough Punishment

Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Founder and President of BOND Action, issued a statement in support of the House ethics panel decision to convict Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) of breaking ethics rules. An ethics panel of eight House members deliberated over two days and convicted the former Ways and Means chairman on 11 counts of financial and fundraising misconduct. The embattled 20-term congressman walked out of his own hearing and was not present when the verdict was announced. The full ethics committee will now conduct a hearing on the appropriate punishment for Rangel.

“The decision by the ethics panel to convict Rep. Rangel and not be distracted by his bizarre antics at the start of the hearing sends a strong message,” said Rev. Peterson. “The era of corrupt black elected officials not being held accountable for their actions is over. It’s time out for arrogant liberal black politicians who exploit their constituents and fleece taxpayers in order to line their pockets.”

According to reports, the congressional panel found that Rangel had used House stationary and staff to solicit money for a New York college center named after him. It also found that Rangel solicited donors for the center with interests before the Ways and Means Committee, leaving the impression that the money could influence official actions. He also was found guilty of failing to disclose at least $600,000 in assets and income; using a rent-subsidized New York apartment for a campaign office, when it was designated for residential use; and failure to report rental income to the IRS.

Rev. Peterson said, “I hope the ethics panel will make sure this conviction has teeth by meting out tough punishment for Rangel.”

The House Ethics Committee trial for Rangel’s colleague Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) is scheduled to begin on Nov. 29.

I’d be willing to give Rep. Rangel a partial pass if he would produce a bona fide copy of BHO’s long form birth certificate.

Surprising that it got to this point. Normally, democrats are held to a much lower standard that normal people.

Finally a chance to get accountability!

Amen!

Charlie's theatrics and sniveling at his trial was absolutely sickening, especially so because what he was crying about was his own doing.

We have accountability now. A year or two ago I never thought we would get to the point of a subcommittee conviction on double digit counts. I’m satisfied regardless of the punishment.

Now there may be some potential for criminal indictments...

Don't get your hopes up....

All I see Rangel get is a verbal rebuke....and a slap on the hand.

Only if he gets the orange jumpsuit to go with it. The biggest thing standing in the way of that is fear of violent riots which he, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson will incite if there is any actual consequence for his crimes.

He’ll probably be forced to listen to a fifteen-minute condemnation of is actions while standing on the House floor, and lose his chairmanship (which he’s losing anyway). MSM will cover the event and try to convince us it’s just like flogging, or maybe keelhauling.

Let’s see...tax evasion, lying under oath...to name only a couple. If an ordinary citizen did this he/she would go to jail. If a congressman does it they get “a reprimand.” Sorry. This doesn’t cut it. Those in Congress work for the American people. They need to be held to at least an equal standard if not a higher one. Anything short of expulsion from Congress for Charlie Rangel is a joke. So much for Pelosi’s claim of “draining the swamp.” The swamp is Congress. And it is full of waste and corruption.

I am getting a large large bushel basket of pop corn, cases of water, and diet Pepsi, arranging the pillows, and getting ready for the Maxine Waters show. This will be one of the greatest shows on earth, she may change her story 360 degrees.

I am weary of chances with no gain. Eleven violations out of thirteen would be more than enough to have any Republican removed from all respect. (Trent Lott comes to mind-oh he is
still hanging around but nobody listens to him anymore) I would give Good Time Charlie a partial pass if he hadn’t
played the race card. Pretended to be dumb, and broke, and
not able to buy his defense. No doubt the Democrats intend to give him a pass.any punishment would be incompatible with the
political record.
