Kissinger: Gassing Jews would not be a US problem

‘If they put Jews into gas chambers in the Soviet Union, it is not an American concern.’ secretary of state heard telling Nixon on 1973 tape.

WASHINGTON – Henry Kissinger is heard saying the genocide of Soviet Jews would not be an American problem on newly released tapes chronicling President Nixon’s obsession with disparaging Jews and other minorities.

Kissinger’s remarks come after a meeting between the two men and former prime minister Golda Meir on March 1, 1973, in which Meir pleads for US pressure on the Soviet Union to release its Jews.

The men dismiss her plea after Meir leaves.

“The emigration of Jews from the Soviet Union is not an objective of American foreign policy,” The New York Times on Saturday quoted Kissinger, then secretary of state, as saying on the tapes. “And if they put Jews into gas chambers in the Soviet Union, it is not an American concern. Maybe a humanitarian concern.”

Or the Vietnamese Montanards or the Cambodian people or anyone else that Kissinger sold out.

If someone put Henry Kissinger in a gas chamber, it would be about 40 years late.

Some say they based Dr. Strangelove on Henry Kissinger or Herman Kahn. Perhaps a little bit of both.

Unfortunately, some German Jews still have a bigoted attitude to Slavic Jews.

[‘If they put Jews into gas chambers in the Soviet Union, it is not an American concern.’]

Soon - in this world, there will be no one left to admire. Not that Kissinger was ever high on my list, but day by day people are baring their souls and it’s not pretty to see.

Right now, we have another dem advocating the creation of a crisis.

Heinz Alfred Kissinger was born in Fürth, Bavaria, Weimar Republic to a family of German Jews.

Hank's statement was in response to the question of what was the American interest ~ not whether or not Russian Jews should be gassed.

At the time American diplomacy with the Soviets had to always consider the fact they were armed and dangerous. We were also deeply involved in a proxy war with the USSR in Viet Nam.

No doubt ol’ Henry would have happily worked as a kapo and Nazi commandant bootlicker.

That would be unfair. As much as I dislike Kissinger, he did serve in the US Army during WWII.

I tend to think this is taken out of context. The Russians were not gassing Jews. They were making life difficult for those Jewish 'refuseniks' who were criticizing the Soviet state, and they did have a problem in that many of their best engineers and scientists were Jews who if given an opportunity would have moved to Israel in a heart beat. A lot of them defected when they had a chance, but they were not being gassed or murdered in mass.

If you’d ever read any of his books you would not be surprised with his answer. It’s in the tradition of Metternich (among others). In that view Nations Have Vital Interests that may well be dissociated from individual morality (etc.).

All the decades after Kissinger’s time in office, all the talking head shows he appeared on... I always wondered what people saw in him, why they valued his opinion. I don’t watch much TV anymore. Do they still drag this old dinosaur onto the set to ask him what he thinks? Does he still croak out his barely understandable words?

What does Henry think?

I never thought that was a valid question. Ever.

In my opinion, one of the most over-rated personalities in history.

Kissinger is considered a sage because he believed in the inevitable triumph of socialism (not that he believed it would be a good thing).

He saw himself as helping to ease the transition of America into just another socialist state.

No wonder he’s adored by the MSM.

I always liked this one:

Kissinger: “The illegal we do immediately; the unconstitutional takes a little longer.”

You must mean "voluntary zonderkommando" ~ when you toss these WWII insults around you have to use the correct terms, else your intent is lost in a torrent of meaningless gibberish.

No, I don't think Henry the K would have done that sort of job. What is going on here is that you have no understanding of the larger context which delimits what Henry is saying.

He was not advocating murdering Jews, nor, in fact, were the Russians murdering Jews. They were oppressing Jews but they oppressed everybody.

Kissinger represented a kind of pure realpolitik of national interest conceived of purely as security and economic benefit for US nationals. What that view does not take account of is how “US national interest” can and should incorporate civilization, moral principles, and humanitarian beliefs.

A lot of leftist progressives in contrast, can only conceive of their “humanitarian” beliefs and rebuke any “national” interest in security and economics.

An intelligent view of foreign policy avoids both the brutal extremes of a Kissinger and the naive mush-headed extremes of the leftists.

The challenge is to determine criteria for foreign policy “interest” which allow for both.
