HOUSTON -- Three suspects were gunned down Thursday afternoon during a holdup at an east Houston jewelry store, according to police. The owner of the store was also shot, but he survived. Three young men barged into Castillo's Jewelry in the 4500 block of Canal just before 2 p.m. All three had guns, according to police. The owner of the store pulled out his own gun when one of the suspects started dragging his wife into the back of the store. He shot that suspect then ducked behind the counter, grabbed a shotgun and shot the other two suspects.

I totally fail to understand why people think they have the right to steal from others. Great job Mr. Store Owner. Merry Christmas to the families of the dead.

When it is practical to use, nothing beats a shotgun for self protection.

Yep. Every time I read a story like this that is the first thing I think of. Just like every time I land in a metropolitan area I marvel at the number of buildings under me and what a HUGE tax base it must be. :)

A 12ga loaded with ‘00’ buckshot will make several big holes at that range.

I watched the video. That part of Houston might as well be in Mexico.

I bought a remington 870 home protection shotgun back when Obama was elected. I took it to a range a couple months ago to fire it for the first time. In jammed on the 18th shell.

I got it unstuck and it worked fine after that. I did do about 20 skeet shots with it and hit one, barely. I’ll need to practice more. Shooting it is not fun, but that is not the point. I expect to get some game with it on our farm in Kentucky. But I’ll use the SKS for most stuff.

Last time we were there, a big buck and a doe walked right across our front yard. after we cleared 500 bales of hay, a couple of turkeys kept coming back looking for their nests. We had taken the eggs to a friend’s house to try to hatch in his chicken pen.

Also, our property is an entire finger of a plateau 80’ above the valley below, and the entire rim is forest, so nobody sees what’s going on up there. ;)

The right and just outcome was achieved.

I second that on the shotgun. It is good that the owner had a handgun for the fellow who had his wife and quick access to the shotgun to take care of the rest of the business. That is Class A preparation for contingencies. He should do a DVD for store defense classes.

“All three suspects were pronounced dead at the scene.”

Pronunciation is important.

Using the pistol to fight your way to the shotgun. Smart man. Brave man. God bless him.

So they bought the farm while doing a little early Christmas shopping. Tough break. Evidently the thug business model has the potential for severe and sudden downsizing.
